The role will be to support the Production and Engineering teams at Birr and responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC laser cutting equipment to produce metal components. This role requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and adherence to quality and safety standards to ensure efficient production in a fabrication environment.
Responsibilities:
* Set up and operate CNC laser cutting machine for cutting sheet metal and plate materials.
* Interpret technical drawings, CAD files, and work orders to determine machine settings and cutting Methods.
* Select, inspect, and prepare raw materials (sheet metal, plate, etc.) for processing.
* Perform routine machine checks and preventative maintenance to ensure optimal performance.
* Optimise machine programming and nesting layouts to reduce waste and increase efficiency.
* Inspect finished parts using calipers and other measuring equipment to verify dimensions.
* Troubleshoot equipment issues, material defects, or program errors, and escalate as necessary.
* Maintain accurate production records, part counts, and material usage logs.
* Follow company safety policies and procedures, including lockout/tagout and PPE usage.
* Assist with continuous improvement initiatives in manufacturing processes and workflow.
* Assist in training new operators on safe and efficient use of equipment
* Collaborate with other team members (press brake operators, welders, assemblers) to meet production schedules.
* Safely operating a forklift or other material-handling equipment to load and unload sheet metal and plate materials onto the laser cutting machine.
* Immediately report near misses, incidents, or safety concerns to supervisor
Requirements
* Minimum 1-3 years industry experience (Fabrication Setting).
* Basic understanding of CNC programming CAD/CAM software (SolidWorks) preferred.
* Mechanical aptitude and strong troubleshooting skills.
* Strong attention to detail and quality focus.
* Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
* Strong organisational and time management skills.
* Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles desirable
* Ability to adapt to changing production priorities
Full training will be provided for the successful candidate. While prior experience in laser cutting or fabrication is beneficial, it is not essential. The role will offer the candidate the chance to work in a steadily growing business and the opportunity to work with new technology, particularly in the Fabrication department.
