OverviewThe Microbiology and Molecular Laboratory provide professional management, leadership and expert scientific analytical advice within the Microbiology Laboratory. They will report to the CSO and CEO. As a member of the Senior Management, the Laboratory Manager will play a critical strategic role in achieving the organization's scientific goals and contributing to Southern's productivity and/or changes to its outputs.The Laboratory Manager will work closely with the CSO to mentor, advise, and train all analysts and develop a team of innovative scientists. As subject matter experts, they will support the business development team to win and develop new business. The successful candidate will assess new technologies in the marketplace to make suitable recommendations to the Executive Management Team. They will be key in establishing and agreeing the Laboratories scientific development. Specifically, through assessing opportunities from, and the impact of, new scientific developments in areas critical to the company's business activities.ResponsibilitiesLead and manage the Microbiology Laboratory, delivering excellent service to customers in accordance with INAB, ISO17025 standards and the management systemProvide technical direction, support and advice in relation to Microbiology as particular area of analytical expertiseResponsible for the development, validation, troubleshooting, quality assurance and other scientific support within the laboratory. Managing the process for validation of all instruments and processes used within the laboratoryManage team workloads across multiple projects with competing priorities and resources.Develop, implement, and monitor new projects that are in line with the organization's business activitiesSimplify processes and facilitate implementation of innovative platforms, digital tools and new initiativesPerform SOP review & write-upPlan & execute PT testingTo conduct internal audits, QC checks, equipment maintenance & calibration, result entry & validation.Evaluate and report on staff performance, laboratory staff and equipment resourcesDiscussing test results with customerChecking and signing of all appropriate reports issued by the laboratory.Support the development and the preparation of scientific events by collaborating with colleaguesRepresent Southern and the management team at scientific and industry meetingsDescribe the organization's strategy and pipeline research to internal and external stakeholders, potential investors, partners, collaborators, and regulatory agencies.Remain current on industry trends and advise the organization regarding scientific matters.Perform other duties as assigned or special projects as needed.Required QualificationsA BSc /MSc in Microbiology or other relevant disciplines.A minimum of 5 years of industry experience accompanied by progressive responsibility/authority in a commercial laboratory.Extensive experience in analytical science, including experience in designing, optimizing and troubleshooting extraction & Quantification for a range of analytical instrumentationExperience managing a large team, with strong people, change management and conflict resolution skillsStrong leadership skills and excellent interpersonal and emotional intelligence.Able to work to deadlines and adapt to changing conditions and ambiguity generating effective and pragmatic solutions to new situations and problems as they are presented.A key participant in business development; must be familiar with market/opportunity analysis.In dept knowledge of ISO 17025Proven ability to develop appropriately aggressive milestones and consistently achieve targets.Job DetailsJob Types: Full-time, PermanentSchedule:8 hour shiftEducation:Bachelor\'s (essential)Experience:lab manager: 5 years (preferred)Work authorisation:Ireland (required)Work Location: In person
