ABOUT THE ROLE
Job Purpose
The Assistant Director (AD) supports the Director in delivering high-quality live and recorded esports broadcasts across Riot Games productions.
This role is central to the smooth execution of rundowns, maintaining accurate timing, and ensuring seamless communication between the control room, observers, talent, stage management, replay, graphics, and technical teams.
The successful candidate will play a key role in coordinating live production activity in a fast-paced and highly dynamic broadcast environment.
They will be responsible for helping drive the flow of the show, anticipating live changes, and supporting the Director to ensure all editorial, sponsor, and production elements are delivered accurately and efficiently.
Based in Project Stryker, a world-class Remote Broadcast Centre, the Assistant Director will be expected to demonstrate excellent organisational skills, composure under pressure, and a strong understanding of live production workflows.
The ability to quickly learn the rhythm and flow of live esports competition, respond to unpredictability, and communicate clearly across multiple teams is critical for success in this role.
Responsibilities
Review match schedules, formats, tournament structures, and show requirements in advance of each production.
Break down rundowns to align gameplay segments, analyst desk, commercial breaks, sponsor integrations, and studio elements.
Coordinate show flow with Producers, Directors, Observers, Replay Operators, Graphics, Talent, Stage Management, and technical teams.
Prepare detailed timing sheets, cue lists, running orders, and contingency plans for live and recorded broadcasts.
Participate in rehearsals, technical checks, and latency testing, particularly for remote or distributed productions.
Support the Director and production team in identifying potential risks to broadcast flow and preparing practical solutions in advance.
Live Production
Cue observers, talent, stage managers, replay, graphics, and other operational teams during live broadcasts.
Maintain strict timing across gameplay, studio segments, sponsor obligations, and scheduled breaks.
Relay Director instructions clearly and efficiently over talkback to ensure all teams remain aligned.
Coordinate transitions between gameplay, replays, player cameras, desk analysis, and studio segments.
Monitor the progress of the rundown and proactively communicate any timing changes or operational issues.
Support the execution of sponsor integrations, graphic triggers, and required production elements accurately and on time.
Respond rapidly to in-game unpredictability including pauses, delays, technical issues, and other changes to the live show.
Work closely with the Director and Producer to preserve editorial flow and production quality in high-pressure environments.
Support post-show reviews by providing feedback on timing, communication flow, and operational execution.
Contribute to production debriefs and identify opportunities to improve workflow, accuracy, and show efficiency.
Ensure any relevant shift notes, operational concerns, or production issues are handed over to the appropriate stakeholders.
Assist with documenting lessons learned and process improvements for future productions.

Experience Profile
Experience working in live broadcast, live events, esports production, or a comparable fast-paced production environment.
Demonstrated experience supporting live multi-camera or gallery-based production workflows.
Strong understanding of live show structure, timing, cueing, and control room communication.
Experience working in sport, esports, gaming, remote production, or other high-pressure live content environments is highly desirable.
Experience coordinating multiple stakeholders during live transmissions or recordings would be advantageous.
Strong understanding of live broadcast and production workflows
Good working knowledge of relevant game titles and gaming ecosystems, with an understanding of core gameplay, characters, and how the games are played.
Excellent communication and coordination skills in a fast-paced environment.
Strong sense of timing, organisation, and attention to detail.
Ability to multitask, problem-solve, and adapt quickly under pressure.
Confident working collaboratively across production, technical, and talent teams.
Passion for esports, live content, and high-quality broadcast delivery.
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and ability to learn new systems.
Available to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Qualifications
Degree in Communications, Broadcasting, Media Production, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
Three years' relevant live production or esports broadcast experience preferred.
