Role Overview
A company based in Co Laois is seeking a highly skilled and forward-thinking Senior Financial Accountant to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of all financial reporting and compliance activities. This role is central to delivering monthly management accounts, statutory filings, and value-adding financial analysis, supporting senior leadership in operational decision-making, strategic planning, and ongoing growth initiatives.
Beyond core accounting responsibilities, the Senior Financial Accountant will play a key role in systems improvement, including the use of AI-driven tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy, as well as supporting acquisition and integration projects as the organisation continues to expand under private ownership.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Reporting & Analysis
* Prepare accurate monthly management accounts within 5–7 working days after month-end.
* Complete all month-end close activities, including reconciliations, accruals, and variance analysis.
* Provide insightful financial analysis to support both operational and strategic decisions.
2. Budgeting, Forecasting & Cashflow
* Assist in preparing annual budgets and quarterly reforecasts.
* Produce rolling cashflow forecasts, maintaining a ≤5% variance between forecast and actual results.
* Monitor and report key performance metrics, highlighting risks and opportunities.
3. Compliance & Audit
* Ensure timely and accurate submission of VAT, PAYE, and Corporation Tax returns.
* Liaise with auditors for interim and year-end audits to ensure minimal adjustments.
* Maintain and continually improve internal control processes.
4. Systems & Process Improvement
* Lead enhancements to ERP and financial systems to streamline workflows.
* Introduce AI and automation tools for reconciliations, reporting, and forecasting.
* Collaborate with operational teams to integrate finance data with warehouse, delivery, and sales systems for real-time insights.
5. M&A Support – Acquisitions & Integrations
* Contribute to financial due diligence for potential acquisitions.
* Support the integration of acquired businesses into existing systems, controls, and reporting structures.
* Develop dashboards to track post-acquisition performance.
Skills & Experience Required
* ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified or part-qualified.
* Minimum 5 years' experience in financial accounting or a similar role.
* Experience with ERP implementation or process automation projects.
* Familiarity with AI-based finance/reporting tools (advantageous).
* Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data.
