Intern Software Engineering, Network Traffic full time, starting in March-April-May ****, 6 months, student status required About the team and the role eBay's Traffic Engineering team builds and operates the platforms that manage all public and private site traffic.
The team focuses on highly resilient, distributed systems at the edge of eBay's infrastructure—supporting traffic proxying, service mesh capabilities, and deep observability across services.
In this role as a Software Engineering, Network Traffic, you'll collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to design and improve core traffic systems, contribute to open-source work, and help advance the reliability and performance of eBay's network.
This position offers the opportunity to work on large-scale, high-impact systems and influence technical direction.
What you will accomplish Design, develop, and maintain traffic management solutions that support reliable, high-volume network flows.
Optimize network protocols, configurations, and global Points of Presence (PoPs) to improve performance.
Build high-performance C++ and Go applications, including advanced caching strategies.
Deploy and operate scalable systems on Kubernetes with strong observability practices.
Analyze traffic patterns and security signals to identify issues and drive resolution.
Contribute to open-source projects and advance innovative or patented technologies.
What you will bring Strong programming skills in C++ or Go.
Familiarity with observability tools and practices.
An interest in networking with a basic understanding of L3/4 vs L7 and IP protocols (Preferred) Experience with Envoy, large-scale environments, caching strategies, or PoP optimization.

Contributions to open-source work, Agile experience, certifications in networking or security, or experience with additional languages such as Java.
