Abbott Diagnostics – Longford

The Longford site plays a critical role in meeting growing global demand for diagnostic testing in areas such as infectious disease, cancer, thyroid, and cardiovascular health.

The Role

We are currently recruiting a Diagnostic Technologist to join our Operations team. In this role, you will support the manufacturing and testing of diagnostic products that are used worldwide to improve patient outcomes. You will work in a regulated, safety‑focused environment, ensuring production and testing activities meet Abbott's high standards for quality, compliance, safety, and customer service.

Primary Purpose

* Support the delivery of production schedules to meet customer service, quality, financial, inventory, and safety objectives.
* Execute manufacturing and testing activities efficiently, safely, and in compliance with all procedural requirements.

Key Responsibilities

* Perform duties as assigned by the Team Leader in line with production and quality requirements.
* Carry out manufacturing activities, including:
o Adherence to manufacturing processes and documentation practices
o Use of computer systems such as LDRS, DMS, LIMS, ETMS, and ERP
o Environmental monitoring and control sampling
* Complete all documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
* Comply with GMP, GLP, and EHS standards at all times.
* Promote safe work practices and correct behaviours on the job.
* Contribute to cost control initiatives, including waste reduction.
* Train and support new team members as required.
* Support continuous improvement initiatives and cost‑saving projects.
* Assist with validation activities, procedure updates, and annual budget preparation.
* Maintain adequate stocks of laboratory and manufacturing consumables.
* Support any additional manufacturing or testing activities required by the Diagnostics Division.#

Function‑Specific Responsibilities

Concentrates Manufacturing

* Manufacture microparticle and conjugate components.
* Operate systems such as AMPs, MAGSEP, FPLC, and spectrophotometers.
* Use equipment including stir plates, roller mixers, pumps, filters, and rotators.
* Perform chemical dispensing and line clearance activities.
* Work in Class 8 and Class 5 cleanroom environments, following aseptic techniques and GMP requirements.

Solutions Manufacturing

* Manufacture bulk calibrators, controls, reagents, buffers, stocks, and diluents.
* Carry out large‑scale tank and smaller‑scale carboy manufacturing.
* Operate mixing, pumping, and filtration equipment.
* Ensure compliance with manufacturing formulas, procedures, and cleanroom standards.

Testing

* Perform in‑process testing and customer release testing in line with standard control procedures.
* Operate and maintain Abbott diagnostic analysers (e.g. Architect, Alinity).
* Execute testing via LIMS and instrument customer interfaces.
* Perform non‑platform testing such as HPLC, LCMS, Lot Uniformity, % solids.
* Review, verify, and approve test results.
* Initiate and support laboratory investigations, change requests, complaints, and stability testing.
* Support developmental and on‑market stability testing programmes.

Education

* Minimum Leaving Certificate or equivalent, plus a certificate in a relevant scientific discipline.
* This foundation supports understanding of scientific principles, data recording, and analysis.

Experience

* Previous experience in a scientific or regulated manufacturing environment is desirable but not essential.
* Knowledge of GMP and GLP environments is an advantage.
