Industrial Hygiene Specialist
The role of an industrial hygiene specialist plays a vital part in ensuring a safe working environment at our manufacturing facility. As part of the occupational health team, they will be responsible for ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
Key responsibilities include:
* Potent Compound Exposure Monitoring & Containment Verification: Developing plans, managing/coordinating, and delivering a site IH chemical monitoring plan to identify potential hazards.
* New Product Introduction (NPI) Support: Providing written assessments and banding recommendations on projects submitted for assessment to ensure product safety.
* CLP Directive & Chemical Compliance: Completing regular assessment and audits of site chemical inventories to ensure compliance with regulations.
* REACH Directive & Chemical Compliance: Regular assessment and audits of site compliance with NPI and changes to chemical inventory to ensure safe handling practices.
* Ergonomics Programme: Developing plans, managing/coordinating, and delivering on all aspects of manual handling training and DSE assessments.
* Projects Support: Working closely with the projects department and other teams to assess new equipment introductions and facility designs to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
* Hazard Communications Programme: Ensuring that MSDS are available for all substances and collaborating with various departments to maintain compliance.
* Dangerous Goods Transport Programme: Oversight of programme and audit compliance, working closely with supply chain management.
* Respiratory Protection & Hearing Conservation Programmes: Coordinating and overseeing required activities to meet compliance requirements.
* Laser & Safety Programme: Compliance oversight and auditing laser safety to prevent accidents.
* Radiation Safety Programme: Managing licence compliance obligations and conducting regular audits to ensure radiation safety.
* General Occupational Health Support: Providing support and acting as the primary point of contact for designated departments on incident investigations, near misses, change controls, and other management system processes.
* Asbestos Control Programme: Acting as subject matter expert and collaborating with various departments on asbestos control measures.
* Legionella & Biological Safety: Ensuring compliance with legal requirements, advising management and system owners on their duties, auditing the programme, and preparing reports.
* SHE/IH Programme Training: Generating materials and delivering initial and refresher training for all programmes within scope.
* Occupational Health Programme: Collaborating with the occupational health team to complete assessments and provide SME advice on new chemicals introduced into the plant and associated exposure controls.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline or higher.
* Qualification in Industrial/Occupational Hygiene or working towards certification.
* Competence to act as Subject Matter Expert in Industrial/Occupational Hygiene.
* Experience in completing occupational/industrial hygiene exposure assessments.
* Pharmaceutical manufacturing experience.
* Experience assessing HPAPI handling and containment.
* Comfortable with complex chemistry.
* Developing IH sampling plans and conducting field sampling.
