eir evo talent are currently seeking applicants for a Linux Systems Engineer. This is a fixed term contract (12 month duration) position located with our client in Dublin 8. This is a hybrid role requiring 3 days a week in the office (Monday, Tuesday and Friday).
Role Purpose and Context
Our client is looking is progressing a new initiative to migrate computing workloads to a flexible open-source platform based on Openstack & Kubernetes. As a result, a role is available for a Systems Engineer with Linux experience to assist in the design, development, and maintenance of this platform.
The Systems Engineer will work collaboratively with internal teams through development, deployment, and operation of new microservice-based services, as well as the migration of other services compatible with the platform. You will also be part of the team responsible for continuing design, development, and maintenance of the environment itself.
The ideal candidate should have a broad range of hands-on technical skills with strong design and implementation skills, and at least one successfully completed design/build project.
Key Responsibilities
1. Day-to-day management of the infrastructure stack
2. Hardware specification and maintenance
3. Ensuring that existing software and services are updated and patched as required
4. Help improve our metrics and logs gathering capabilities
5. Document and refine internal policies and procedures
6. Automate as many policies and procedures as possible
7. Working with development and network teams to troubleshoot issues.
8. Some on-call duties as required
Knowledge and Experience Requirements
9. Three years or more experience with Linux/Unix Administration
10. Three years or more experience with scripting languages such as Python or Bash
11. Strong Experience with OVirt from a virtualisation owner/provider perspective
12. Strong Experience with Gluster from a storage owner/provider perspective
13. Strong Experience with debugging hardware issues
14. Strong Networking
15. One years or more experience with version control technologies such as Git or SVN
16. Strong communication skills: verbal and/or written
17. Experience building and operating online services and
fault-tolerant distributed systems
18. Familiarity with a wide range of open-source technologies
19. Solid analytical, conceptual and problem-solving abilities
20. Knowledge of best practices and IT operations in a public-facing always-available environment
21. Familiarity with Networked and Software defined storage technologies — NFS, RAID, Ceph
Desired Skills
22. Strong experience with Ubuntu, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, or CentOS
23. One year or more experience with automation tooling such as Ansible, Chef or Jenkins
24. One year or more experience with deploying, administrating or configuring Kubernetes deployed services
25. Experience with on-premises deployed infrastructure
26. Some familiarity with Agile and Continuous Delivery methodologies
27. Strong experience with SQL and DBA on open-source databases
28. Some experience with Monitoring Systems such as Prometheus, Alertmanager
29. Some experience with Visualisation tools such as Grafana
30. OpenStack experience a plus
31. Some experience with Juju a plus
