About The Team
Launched in 2021, Fanatics Betting and Gaming is the online and retail sports betting subsidiary of Fanatics. The Fanatics Sportsbook is available to 95% of the addressable online sports bettor market in the U.S. Fanatics Casino is currently available online in Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Fanatics Betting and Gaming operates twenty-two retail sports betting locations, including the only sportsbook inside an NFL stadium at Northwest Stadium. The team is headquartered in New York with offices in Denver, Leeds and Dublin.

Responsibilities
Lead a team or teams that develop, test, document, and deploy high‑quality software into production, leading the delivery of extensible and scalable solutions.
Clarify requirements and assist with coding/story estimates.
Participate in the on‑call rotation when needed to troubleshoot software issues.
Identify when to troubleshoot or elevate when tasks or projects hit roadblocks, finding a path forward in difficult situations.
Mitigate immediate risk and resolve root causes.
Remove bottlenecks and make short‑term versus long‑term technical and design trade‑off decisions.
Contribute to team planning and design discussions, building expertise around design approaches, driving best practices and improving delivery speed.
Lead code reviews to provide constructive direction.
Proactively simplify code and resolve team architecture deficiencies.
Impact software architecture, dependencies, performance, and business value.
Improve testability, operational excellence metrics, and team documentation.
Advise technology leaders, product team, and other internal stakeholders to make technology decisions that grow and improve products.
Mentor and coach other engineers, reducing onboarding burden for future team members.
Influence the team’s adherence to the principles, guidelines, and best practices of our engineering strategy.
Develop a solid understanding of our industry, product, feature set and roadmap.
Remain current on the latest technologies and trends in software development.
Be open to occasional travel to Fanatics Betting & Gaming offices and other locations for conferences, events, meetings, and team‑building activities.
Required Qualifications
8+ years of experience building highly scalable and fault‑tolerant systems in Java (Backend).
Understand a broad range of design approaches.
Triage and debug system‑wide production issues.
Demonstrated experience mentoring other engineers.
Effectively communicate complex technical subjects to diverse audiences.
Familiar with Agile software delivery and SCRUM methodology.
Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
Have an agile mindset and embrace new initiatives in a fast‑paced environment.
Thrive in an entrepreneurial, hyper‑growth environment where priorities evolve regularly.
Team‑first mentality, willing to do what it takes to get the job done and striving for improvement.
Work cross‑functionally within an enterprise environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a start‑up environment.
1+ years of experience leading a development team.
Experience with React.
Experience with Apache Kafka.
Experience with AWS.
Experience with PostgreSQL.
Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. We are open to fully remote candidates based in Ireland, but we strongly encourage those who can join us on campus two days per week.
