“A Teaching Assistant post in the University of Limerick operates as a training contract. The duration of the contract is limited to 10 months. However, it may be renewed for one further period only not exceeding 10 months. Applications will only be considered from individuals who have not already received two Teaching Assistant contracts.”

JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB SYNOPSIS:
The role of Teaching Assistant in Technology Education (Engineering/Technology and Graphics), will require the successful candidate to manage Engineering/Technology workshops and/or Communication Graphics labs and tutorials for undergraduate and/or postgraduate students in the School of Education. QUALIFICATIONS:
* Honours Engineering/Technology/Graphics related degree with minimum 2.1 level, with specialism in post primary teaching.
OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The successful candidate will be expected to teach and manage Engineering/Technology workshops and/or Design and Communication Graphics labs and tutorials to undergraduate students in the School of Education.
The successful candidate will facilitate the delivery of various modules relating to post-primary teacher education, at undergraduate and taught postgraduate level. These modules may specifically address topics relating to materials technology and processing, design and manufacturing, automation and control, structural and mechanical systems, information and communications technology, design and communication graphics, computer aided design (CAD), health and safety management as well as subject specific pedagogy and foundation studies.
Duties include teaching on undergraduate and/or postgraduate modules in the above-named areas. The successful applicant will be required to carry out administrative and assessment duties connected with the post and such other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Head of School. DESCRIPTION:
Essential Criteria:
* Honours Engineering/Technology/Graphics related degree with minimum 2.1 level, with specialism in post primary teaching.
* Knowledge of national policy trends in education and of policy in initial teacher education and CÉIM.
* Have experience of managing health and safety in a workshop/classroom setting.
* Experience of Parametric CAD (Solidworks)
Desirable Criteria:
* Teaching experience at second or third level.
* Registration with the Teaching Council.
* A commitment to the pursuit and promotion of postgraduate research.
