Be part of a dynamic team that patrols and protects Ireland's territorial waters. We are seeking suitably qualified Electrical Engineers to fill positions as direct entry Electrical Engineering Officers. About the Role The role of an Electrical Engineering Officer (ELO) is multifaceted, involving the design, procurement, installation and maintenance of various systems within our fleet, including power generation and distribution, navigation systems, communication systems, weapons systems, environmental systems, and IT infrastructure maintenance. In a sea posting, ELOs will be critical members of the ships' engineering department, responsible for electrical, electronic, and control systems governing vessel manoeuvrability, defence, and intelligence gathering. From a military perspective, leadership is a core competency of this role, with opportunities for individual officers to develop their leadership skills through training and experience. ELOs may serve in appointments onboard ships, ashore, or potentially overseas, with opportunities for career development and professional growth. On completion of a sea rotation, you will be posted into a shore appointment in the Naval Dockyard, Naval Base, or the Naval College (NMCI) in Cork, where you will be responsible for project management, maintenance planning, researching new equipment, planning, and procurement. We encourage ELOs to avail of internal training courses and funded Continual Professional Development (CPD) in areas such as project management, engineering master's programs, ATEX1 standards training, energy management, noise surveys & vibration analysis certification, and health & safety qualifications.
