Staff Nurse Inpatient (Part time) - UPMC Sports Surgery Clinic, Dublin

Overview of role
UPMC Sports Surgery Clinic is looking for a Staff Nurse on a permanent part‑time basis (25 hours per week) to join their inpatient ward. You must have experience in a surgical, ideally orthopaedic setting.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Participate in the delivery of care within the clinic.
Liaise with nursing staff to ensure adequate provision of cover when required.
Consistently maintain patient care standards in accordance with operational policies.
Promote and safeguard the well‑being and interests of all patients, employees and visitors.
Maintain awareness of the primacy of the patient in all clinic activities.
Create and promote healthy working relationships.
Demonstrate behaviour consistent with the clinic’s values.
Accountable for nursing service provided to patients in pre‑operative and post‑operative areas, ensuring best possible standard of care.
Assess patient care needs and communicate with relatives and visitors as required.
Set and monitor standards, actively participate in accreditation programmes and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
Keep the Clinical Nurse Manager and Director of Nursing apprised of all issues as required.
Practice within the Code of Practice, Rules and Guidelines set out by An Bord Altranais and comply with policies and procedures of the Sports Surgery Clinic.
Treat each patient as an individual, respecting physical, psychological and religious well‑being.
Provide direct patient care and serve as a behavioural model for excellence in practice.
Set nursing practice standards, communicate them to staff, audit and revise as necessary.
Liaise effectively with all members of the multi‑disciplinary team to ensure patient‑focused care of the highest standard.
Maintain professional standards of behaviour for all nursing team members.
Facilitate effective communication with patients, relatives and the multidisciplinary team.
Adhere to departmental patient identification policy at all times.
Provide a high standard of safe practice for patient care.
Anticipate and be aware of needs of the multidisciplinary team during anaesthesia and the pre‑ and post‑operative process.
Preserve the dignity and rights of patients at all times.
Document and record accurately all details of nursing care delivered in the pre‑ and post‑operative period.
Ensure patient confidentiality is respected and maintained at all times.
Base nursing care on the latest research findings and best practice.
Demonstrate initiative and be receptive to new ideas and development.
Qualifications & Experience
Registered Nurse with An Bord Altranais on the General Division of the live register.
Hospital, surgical and orthopaedic experience is essential.
Experience managing patient care with the highest professional standards using an evidence‑based and care‑planning approach.
Computer literate.
Excellent interpersonal skills and proven written and verbal communication abilities.
Ability to work on own initiative, prioritise and manage multiple issues simultaneously with attention to detail.
Ability to identify potential difficulties and formulate solutions.
Fit and healthy, free from defects or diseases that would render unsuitable for the role.
Good character.
