This position plays a vital role in overseeing the development and maintenance of a high-profile initiative. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing, coordinating, and implementing the recommendations of the Coastal Walk Management Plan (2025). This includes developing an operational plan covering key areas such as maintenance, health and safety, trail monitoring, visitor management, signage, systems, communications, and stakeholder engagement.
The candidate will work closely with Clare County Council to implement the Coastal Walk Management Plan and conduct project and financial administration, including record-keeping, reporting, and filing of all relevant documents and expenditures related to the coastal walk.
Key responsibilities include:
* Managing trail maintenance in collaboration with relevant management teams and/or committees
* Maintaining records and reporting on financial matters, visitor numbers, health and safety, conservation efforts, and any unauthorized activity
* Liaising with landowners on matters concerning trail access and maintenance
* Supporting the Trail Management Committee/Board
* Demonstrating a sound understanding of financial processes and assisting with payment and administrative procedures
* Providing support to Clare County Council and associated departments in the development of other community or commercial recreation and walking projects
* Preparing funding applications for the improvement and development of the coastal walk
* Promoting best practices for environmental and heritage protection, including adherence to Leave No Trace principles
The ideal candidate will have experience in the management and maintenance of outdoor facilities, proven knowledge and experience in financial and project administration, and the ability to effectively work with multiple stakeholder organizations.
Furthermore, they should possess practical experience in trail monitoring and/or outdoor infrastructure maintenance, a strong understanding of landowner needs, particularly farmers, familiarity with the Walks Scheme, and capacity to work independently and collaboratively within a small, dynamic team.
Additionally, the candidate should demonstrate interest and knowledge in environmental conservation, natural heritage, and sustainability, as well as some background or understanding of tourism promotion and marketing.
A qualification in Construction, Rural/Community Development, or Outdoor Recreation is desirable but not essential. A full, clean driving licence and access to personal transport are required.
