Role


The primary purpose of this post is to provide individual, couple and family therapy services and, where appropriate, facilitate group work as part of multidisciplinary care and treatment for service users of SPMHS and their families, in accordance with best practice standards, statutory legislation, Mental Health Commission regulations and SPMHS policies and procedures. The successful candidate will be deployed to a multidisciplinary team that specialises in the treatment of young adults with mental illness.


Responsibilities

* Attend and actively participate in the weekly multidisciplinary team clinical review meeting to which the systemic psychotherapist is deployed.
* Assess each service user – and, where relevant, their family – referred for this and for psychotherapy from a systemic perspective, and contribute relevant information to overall multidisciplinary assessment and care planning.
* Act as a resource to the team and provide specialist knowledge and skills in systemic psychotherapy.
* Provide individual, couple and family therapy services within multidisciplinary care and treatment.
* Provide group work to service users, their families or informal carers as appropriate and complete any relevant administration tasks.
* Perform key worker duties as required.
* Maintain up‑to‑date records on each service user, ensuring timely typed entries and upload of systemic psychotherapy reports and letters to the electronic record system.
* Attend scheduled line management meetings with the Head of Social Work, normally once per month.
* Maintain records and statistical data relevant to management of the Department of Social Work and the organisation.
* Attend the once‑monthly Department of Social Work Meeting, where possible.
* Receive clinical supervision regularly from a formally qualified clinical supervisor contracted by SPMHS.
* Engage in continuous professional development, including training, peer supervision, journal review and discussion groups.
* Contribute to lecture series organised by the Department of Social Work.
* Participate in working groups and membership of relevant committees within the organisation, where relevant.
* Maintain registration with the Family Therapy Association of Ireland (F.T.A.I.).
* Perform any other duties relevant to the role as required.


Qualifications and/or Experience

* Full‑registered member of the Family Therapy Association of Ireland (F.T.A.I.).
* At least 3 recent and consecutive years of post‑qualification systemic psychotherapy experience, preferably with young adults and/or adolescents in formal mental health services.
* Clear appreciation of the needs of adults and adolescents with mental illness and how to effectively support service users and their families.
* Demonstrated ability to apply professional experience from direct clinical practice to service provision for adults and adolescents at SPMHS.


Skills, Competencies and Knowledge

* Relevant and developed professional knowledge and skills for effective practice as a systemic psychotherapist in mental health.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Strong organisational ability.
* Self‑motivated and willing to assume appropriate responsibility.
* Effective teamwork and ability to work independently within defined parameters.
* Sound administrative skills.
* Ethical awareness for best practice.

Application Requirements

Terms and Conditions


Tenure: Specified Purpose, part‑time (0.5 WTE) and pensionable.

Working week: 17.5 hours per week.

Salary: €79,767 – €98,098 per annum, pro‑rata.

Annual leave: 27 days on a 1.0 WTE basis (13.5 days pro‑rata for 0.5 WTE).

Pension: Membership upon commencement of employment. Defined contribution scheme with 4 % deduction.

Probation: First six months subject to performance review; extensions in line with EU Transparent and Predictable Working Conditions 2022.

Health: Applicant must be fully competent and capable of undertaking duties and have a reasonable prospect of efficient service.

Character: Must be of good character.

Retirement age: Normal retirement age 66 years, normal pension age.

Condition of employment: Successful candidate must submit written confirmation of completion of recognised training in the Mental Health Act by date of commencement.
