Overview
WSP is seeking a Deputy Project Manager (or Principal Engineer) with experience in the Roads sector to join its Ireland Roads team. The role focuses on delivering project management support for major national road schemes and local transport improvements across Ireland.
Responsibilities
* Provide project management support on major road schemes, including delivery management of individual tasks, analysis, problem solving, preparation of briefing plans, progress reports, programme updates, and monitoring and completion of financial administration such as in‑month updates, month‑end reporting and invoicing.
* Support the Project Manager with Business/Quality Management System processes and tools, including contract, change, risk or resource management, earned value analysis, project reviews/audits, and lessons‑learned analysis.
* Lead a team of project staff, providing professional and technical guidance, coaching, and mentoring to ensure skill development and continuous improvement.
* Identify training and development opportunities and work with a mentor to establish a career development plan.
Qualifications
* Degree in Civil Engineering (or a related discipline).
* Incorporated or Chartered status (e.g., AMICE, MICE, EI) or equivalent demonstrable experience.
* Experience in civil engineering or road projects, working to UK or Ireland roads standards.
* Proven project management and technical competence in highway engineering.
* Full driver’s licence.
* Flexibility and willingness to lead beyond core discipline.
* Strong communication, teamwork and client‑relationship skills.
* Experience with NEC‑form contracts, contract preparation and supervision.
* Mentoring and guiding junior staff.
