Morgan McKinley are delighted to be supporting a global leader in food distribution as they seek to add a new Transport Shift Manager to add to their fast growing team.
The Transport Shift Manager will be responsible for a large group of drivers completing multidrop deliveries on a daily basis. The ideal candidate for this role will have a strong transport background with a good understand of the rules and regulations of the industry. Experience planning and managing drivers will also be highly beneficial.
This is a full time permanent position and their is a requirement to be on site 5 days per week.
The shifts for this role will run on a 2 week basis as follow:
Week 1 - Monday - Friday 10.30am - 7pm
Week 2 - Monday - Saturday (Thursday off) 10.30am - 7pm.
Key Responsiblities:
- Oversee all depot operations, ensuring the efficient dispatch of daily routes while maintaining smooth workflow and adherence to delivery procedures and policies.
- Coach and motivate the delivery team in alignment with performance and absence management processes, addressing concerns proactively. Analyze trends, provide coaching, and implement disciplinary measures when necessary.
- Maintain open and ongoing communication with key departments, including sales, warehouse, and transport teams, through regular daily and weekly briefings.
- Minimize equipment breakdowns and ensure timely reporting and repairs.
- Ensure company vehicles are well-maintained, clean, and safely operated to prevent accidents and uphold the company's brand image.
- Manage the receipt and dispatch of goods, including backhaul collections, on a daily basis.
- Provide relief driving support as needed.
- Identify, coordinate, and deliver training programs to address driver needs effectively.
- Maintain depot premises to the highest standards.
- Ensure strict adherence to security, health, and safety procedures at all times.
- Lead by example, applying company policies and procedures fairly, consistently, and without bias.
Key Requirements:
- 3+ years' experience in a relevant management / supervisory role in a high volume, technology driven, time sensitive distribution operation
- Experience within the Food distribution industry is advantageous
- Competent in the use of IT systems including Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word
- Ability to plan and organise your own and your teams work activities in a safe, efficient and effective manner
- Strong knowledge of the Department of Transport regulations (Tachograph legislation, Work Time Directive etc.)
- Proven ability to manage a team to deliver the highest standards of service
- Proven ability to be an effective decision maker with a hands-on approach to the business
- Ability to analyse, interpret and explain and present relevant business data
- Fluent English - reading and writing
- High level of flexibility and problem solving
- A full clean Category C Drivers License, valid Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) Card and have a digital tachograph card would be advantageous
- Must possess a strong knowledge of the surrounding geographical area
