EHR Interoperability Build Team Member Location: Dublin / Kildare / Kilkenny / Waterford Job type: Specified Purpose Overview of role: The Interoperability Build Team Member will play a pivotal role in supporting the Cram Electronic Health Record (EHR) implementation across UPMC Ireland. You will report to the Interoperability Team Lead. This role ensures that critical systems-including labs, diagnostic imaging, pharmacy, provincial registries, and external healthcare providers-are seamlessly connected and data is exchanged securely, accurately, and in real time. This role provides tactical support for the Interoperability workstream, ensuring alignment with clinical operations, financial systems, and overall programme goals. As the bridge between technical teams, clinical stakeholders, and external partners, the Interoperability team member will support the design, build, testing, and go-live support of all interfaces and data exchange workflows. The ideal candidate brings strong experience in healthcare integration (HL7, FHIR), EHR systems, and stakeholder engagement across multiple vendors and jurisdictions. This is an excellent opportunity for an interoperability expert who understands the intersections of data migration operations, and health IT systems. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: General Accountabilities You will have responsibility for supporting the delivery of the new Interoperability workstream within UPMC Ireland. You will support implementation of the programme within the project scope and governance, including identification of your stream's stakeholders. You will collaborate with the other workstream members where required. For the workflows to be deployed, you will be responsible for the end-user experience relating to interoperability with the other Clinical and Business teams. You will support the decision-making process towards the resolution of issues impacting your workstream alongside the Workstream Lead. Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as a secondary liaison to the clinicians and supporting staff, ensuring system interoperability design meets clinical documentation and workflow needs. Support interoperability engagement sessions, adoption planning, and go-live readiness efforts. Recommend policy changes and process improvements related to system use to drive efficiencies and improve outcomes. Facilitate regular workgroup meetings, track milestones, document decisions, and escalate risks. Act as a liaison between interoperability functions and the EHR implementation team. Support development of training materials and assist with education on interoperability to relevant end-users. Provide hands-on support during go-live and stabilisation phases, ensuring continuity of interoperability operations and rapid issue resolution. Collaborate with the training team to ensure interoperability staff and other relevant users are adequately trained on interoperability workflows within Meditech and associated applications. Support the planning and delivery of handover training to the future EHR BAU team members. Collaborate with interoperability governance to support ongoing optimization and training needs. Workflow & System Design: Support the development and oversight of the Interoperability strategy and roadmap. Support ensuring the interoperability scope covers all relevant clinical and business domains Collaborate with clinical, business and technical teams to support end-to-end integrity across modules. Act as the subject matter expert (SME) for interoperability-related functions in MEDITECH. Collaborate with MEDITECH analysts and operational leaders to design and validate interoperability workflows within MEDITECH Expanse. Review system functionality related to interoperability functions. Support the design and documentation of interoperability requirements, including inbound and outbound data flows for key systems (e.g., lab systems, diagnostic imaging, pharmacy systems, registries, billing, and third-party applications). Support interoperability development and mapping between MEDITECH and other internal/external systems using HL7, FHIR, API, XDS, and other relevant standards. Support ensuring integration architecture enables clinical workflow needs, minimizes duplication, and promotes data accuracy and accessibility. Contribute to the development of policies and procedures related to data sharing, consent, and third-party access in accordance with privacy legislation. Support the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for interoperability practices. Implementation Support, Data Validation & Testing: Support testing activities for interoperability unit testing, system integration testing (SIT), user acceptance testing (UAT), and data exchange simulations. Support the identification and troubleshooting of issues in collaboration with IT, finance, and clinical teams. Support ensuring the modules are integrated with other enterprise systems to support seamless care delivery and documentation. Champion change management within the interoperability team and the wider organisation, addressing workflow impacts, practice changes, and documentation requirements. Facilitate standards development processes and actively engages interoperability SMEs in design and optimization discussions. Support efforts to validate message integrity, data quality, and system performance across all connected platforms. Support data migration and normalization activities, especially for historical records or external data sources. Act as the escalation point for troubleshooting integration-related issues during go-live and stabilization. Documentation & Governance: Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation, including current state/future state maps, risk/issue logs, decision registers, benefits registers, and change logs. Support governance processes by preparing materials for the Technical Design Forum and senior management meetings. Support the definition and tracking of key performance indicator (KPI) readiness, adoption, and post-go-live performance. Assist in documenting lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives. Support ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements related to clinical safety and digital health. Qualifications & Experience: Required: Minimum 3 years of experience in health IT or systems integration, including at least 2 years of experience working with HL7, FHIR, or interface engine technologies. Demonstrated experience in EHR implementation, integration projects, or health information exchange. Strong understanding of data privacy regulations, clinical data flows, and interoperability frameworks in healthcare Good project coordination, stakeholder engagement, and change management skills. Good analytical thinking, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work across clinical and operational teams Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Health Informatics, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience). Hands-on experience with MEDITECH Expanse, especially with DR (Data Repository), NPR reports, M/AT, and interface setup or equivalent capabilities with other major EHR systems (e.g., Epic, Oracle Health). Experience with interface engines such as Rhapsody, Mirth, Carepoint Certification in HL7, FHIR, or health informatics (e.g., HL7 v2/v3, CPHIMS, or CIHI Data Standards). Knowledge of clinical decision support, change management methodologies (e.g., Prosci, ADKAR), and regulatory requirements. Experience developing training resources and SOPs.
