Job Title: Automation Engineer – MSD
Join our Digital Manufacturing Operations (DMO) Team at our multi‑product biotech facility in Dunboyne. As a leading Automation Engineer, you will develop innovative methodologies for managing automation systems in a high‑performance team setting while ensuring compliance, vendor coordination, and effective problem resolution to support our Governance Pillars in EHS, Quality, Value, People, and Delivery.
What You Will Do
Provide manufacturing execution systems, automation, and technical support to ensure stable, efficient, and robust operations.
Maintain automation systems in an inspection‑ready, GMP‑compliant state and participate in audits as required.
Anticipate, solve, or appropriately escalates problems and provide timely updates.
Co‑operate on escalation plans for routine and out‑of‑hours emergencies and responses.
Collaborate on problem resolution and build relationships for a highly effective work environment.
Investigate non‑conformances, complete technical reports, identify improvement opportunities, and implement solutions.
Control, develop, and modify automation system process recipes, phases, base layers, and operator interfaces.
Review and approve changes to operating procedures and the change‑control process for systems.
Identify opportunities, design, and implement solutions to enhance the digital and paper‑less vision.
Actively participate in inspections, GEMBAs, and Go‑Sees.
Lead approved projects and continuous improvement initiatives aligned with site strategies.
Complete COMMIT cards to support our culture of improvement and collaboration.
Challenge and improve safety and environmental programmes on site.
Promote a culture of safety and openness.
Coach team members and model behaviours that foster dignity and respect.
Embed right‑first‑time principles—lean, simplification, standard work, visual management, and a learning organisation—into daily work.
What Skills You Will Need
5+ years of experience in biotechnology and/or pharmaceutical industry (desirable).
Experience with Production Automated Systems, Building Automated Systems, Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), Data Historians, PLCs.
Strong organisational skills – manage multiple priorities and know when to escalat e.
Proven record of accomplishments in a regulated industry.
Team‑based working experience and a collaborative mindset.
Prior automation experience not mandatory; Bioprocess or Process Operations experience is acceptable.
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Biotechnology, Automation, Mechatronics, Chemical Engineering, etc.).
