They will play a key role in promoting a safety-first culture, ensuring regulatory compliance, and continuously improving our safety performance.
Key Areas of Responsibility: Strategic & Operational Leadership: Develop, implement, and maintain the companys H&S management systems, policies, and procedures in line with legislative requirements and industries best practices.
Drive continuous improvement in health and safety performance across quarrying, asphalt, concrete, transport, and civil operations.
Lead and support operational teams in embedding a proactive safety culture.
Provide direction and advice to senior management on requirements to reduce any risks in the workplace.
Liaise with the Senior Management Team, Operation Managers, Location Managers, employees and contractors in relation to HSE requirements.
Provide expert, professional advice, guidance and counsel when required on H&S matters.
Develop annual H&S action plans.
Collaboration with HR team on Occupational Health Surveillance programmes.
Compliance & Risk Management Ensure compliance with all applicable H&S legislation.
Implement regular audits, site inspections, and risk assessments, providing actionable recommendations and ensuring timely closure of findings.
Conduct occasional audits as needed.
Manage accident/incident investigations, root cause analysis, and follow-up actions.
Maintain and develop systems for statutory reporting, incident tracking, and trend analysis.
Training & Communication Deliver and coordinate health and safety training across the business to increase awareness and competence.
Engage with all levels of staff and subcontractors to promote health and safety responsibilities and awareness.
Lead toolbox talks, safety briefings, and participation in safety forums.
Liaise with external bodies and with CRH to ensure all regulations are in place and are adhered to.
Provide H&S documentation and responses for tendering purposes.
Organise and deliver H&S presentations to our employees / contractors.
Monitoring & Reporting Develop KPIs and metrics to monitor H&S performance and report to senior management and regulatory bodies as required.
Collate and submit health and safety indicators.
Lead the development of internal safety campaigns and safety improvement programmes.
Complete monthly and annual H&S statistics reports.
Leadership & Culture Mentor, guide and manage the wider Health & Safety Team.
Foster a culture of openness, collaboration, and shared responsibility for health and safety across the organisation.
Represent Roadstone in regulatory inspections and external forums when required.
The following knowledge, skills and competencies are desirable for this role: Minimum 5 years experience in a similar H&S management role, preferably within the construction materials, quarrying, or heavy industrial sector.
In-depth knowledge of industrial processes and systems.
Proven experience in managing safety in high-risk environments.
Effective communication, influencing, and leadership skills.
Proficient in incident investigation and risk management techniques.
Desirable: Experience in ISO ***** implementation and auditing.
Training qualifications (e.g., Train the Trainer, IOSH Managing Safely delivery).
Team player with an ability to work on own initiative with positive attitude.
Ability to advise while leading change in a multi-site environment.
Strong organisational and administrative skills.
Excellent communication and people skills to lead a H&S Team as well as interacting with management and employees.
An ability to operate to strict timelines to produce results.
Strong IT skills.
