About the Monks Well & Pantry

Since opening in March 2025, the Monks Well and Pantry has quickly established itself as a community hub. The Monks Pantry is a cost brunch cafe and is a regular meeting point for locals and a destination cafe for those further afield. The monks well pub is a regular host to parties, family occasions and events and a live music venue.

With a great team of chefs and floor staff we are seeking a manager to help advance the food service offering to the next level across both the cafe and events offering.

Role Overview

The Café & Events Manager is responsible for the day-to-day running of The Monks Pantry café in Quin, Co Clare and the planning, coordination, and delivery of food for parties and events hosted at The Monks Well pub.

This is a hands-on leadership role, combining café operations, team management, food standards, and event catering execution, ensuring a seamless food offering across both businesses.

Key Responsibilities

1. Café Operations & Service

2. Manage daily café operations, including opening and closing

3. Ensure consistently high standards of food, coffee, cleanliness, and service
4. Lead service during busy breakfast and brunch periods
5. Maintain a warm, welcoming café atmosphere
6. Handle customer feedback and resolve issues promptly

7. Events & Party Catering (The Monks Well)

8. Plan, coordinate, and deliver food for private parties, family gatherings, community events, and pub functions

9. Liaise with pub management on event numbers, timings, menus, and pricing
10. Design and execute simple event menus (finger food, sharing boards, platters, buffets)
11. Coordinate staffing, prep schedules, and service flow for events
12. Ensure food is delivered on time, to standard, and within budget
13. Manage event-specific stock ordering and cost control

14. Team Leadership & Staffing

15. Recruit, train, and supervise café and event staff

16. Create staff rosters covering café service and event catering
17. Lead by example during service and events
18. Maintain clear standards for professionalism, hygiene, and teamwork
19. Support staff training across café and event food service

20. Stock, Ordering & Cost Control

21. Oversee food, coffee, and consumables ordering

22. Control food costs, portioning, and waste
23. Conduct stock takes for café and event catering
24. Monitor GP margins for both café menu and event food
25. Work with suppliers to maintain quality and value

26. Food Safety, Compliance & Standards

27. Ensure full compliance with HACCP, food safety, and health & safety regulations

28. Maintain cleaning schedules and food safety records
29. Ensure safe transport and service of food for events
30. Act as point of contact for inspections where required

31. Financial & Commercial Performance

32. Track daily café sales and event profitability

33. Control labour costs across café and events
34. Assist with menu pricing and costings
35. Identify opportunities to increase revenue through events, platters, and add-ons
36. Contribute ideas for seasonal menus and promotions

37. Brand, Community & Collaboration

38. Uphold the ethos and brand of The Monks Pantry and The Monks Well

39. Work closely with pub management to ensure smooth event delivery
40. Build relationships with regular customers, local groups, and event organisers
41. Support marketing of catering and event food offerings

Skills & Experience

Essential:

* Experience managing a café, kitchen, or food operation
* Strong organisational and leadership skills
* Experience coordinating food for events or functions
* Good understanding of food safety and stock control
* Ability to work early mornings, evenings, and occasional late events

Desirable:

* Brunch or café food experience
* Event or pub catering experience
* Menu costing and GP management experience
* Barista skills
