Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and skilled R&D Engineer to lead our new product development projects. The successful candidate will have a technical background with research and development experience and be capable of utilizing their expertise and skills in the successful development of new products.
The ideal candidate will be able to identify and investigate new product ideas or technologies and bring these through a defined technology development process.
Main Responsibilities:
* Representing R&D on new product development project teams
* Researching new ideas and technologies/materials and evaluating technology performance and stability
* Sourcing/selecting materials and components and the evaluation of same
* Developing product and component specifications to ensure that the product consistently performs to a level which meets the needs of the customer
* Developing new test methods to characterize and measure the performance of the product
* Providing technical R&D support to other functions including global marketing, regulatory affairs, engineering and manufacturing
* Managing project schedules, conducting product and project risk analysis and ensuring successful and timely completion of project activities
* Working with patent counsel to support patentability/infringement searches and preparation of patent applications
* Planning and performing design verification and design validation activities
Required Skills and Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will require:
* Academic/Credentials/Certifications: A Level 8 (Honours) Degree in Mechanical/Biomedical Engineering, Design Engineering or a related discipline is required
* Masters or PhD in a related discipline is preferred
* Length of Experience: 8+ years of relevant industry experience preferably in medical devices
* Specialized skills/Technical knowledge: Innovative/Creative Thinker – must have a demonstrated ability to conduct exploration of subject areas for novel concepts and approaches
* Working knowledge of 3D modeling software (SolidWorks, Creo, etc.)
* Advanced understanding of customer needs and design inputs
* Demonstrated analytical problem solving abilities
* Good organization and communications skills
* Demonstrated ability to manage projects including directing the work of others
* Good collaborative team skills and a high level of enthusiasm and motivation
* Product design and prototype development experience
* Strong working knowledge of medical device quality & regulatory systems including design controls and medical device directives
