Role Title: Business Analyst

Summary of the role:
EXL is seeking a highly capable, product-minded Business Analyst (B2) to join our Intelligent Premium Audit Platform team. This role is part of a new agile pod that will design and deliver innovative features for our web-based systems supporting Property & Casualty insurance operations, auditors, and carrier clients.
You will work closely with the Platform Owner and Product Owners to turn complex business problems into clear, actionable requirements. This is not a "ticket taker" role—successful candidates will demonstrate strong critical thinking, comfort with ambiguity, and the ability to work independently while collaborating across global teams.
Responsibilities
As part of your duties, you will be responsible for:
Business & Product Analysis
o Partner directly with Product Owner / Platform Owner to break down Epics into clear, well-defined Features and User Stories.
o Facilitate requirement discussions with business stakeholders, operations teams, and client partners; identify gaps, edge cases, and process risks.
o Document detailed functional and non-functional requirements, including workflow nuances, validation rules, UI/UX behavior, and integration needs.
o Review end-to-end business processes and propose improvements that reduce friction, improve data quality, or increase automation.
Agile Delivery & Execution
o Own your User Stories through the full lifecycle: grooming, refinement, dependency identification, clarification for developers, acceptance criteria validation, and functional review in the development environment.
o Validate delivered stories directly in dev—ensuring completeness, accuracy, and alignment with intended workflow before moving to UAT.
o Collaborate closely with developers, QA automation engineers, and architects to clarify requirements and resolve questions quickly to maintain sprint velocity.
o Provide demos to business stakeholders and support a smooth transition from development to production.
Cross-Functional Communication
o Act as the primary liaison between business stakeholders, operations teams, the technical pod, and global Scrum teams.
o Communicate requirement changes, risks, and impacts clearly to all parties.
o Manage scope and assist in evaluating change requests for feasibility and timeline impact.
o Escalate risks or blockers to the Platform Owner in a timely manner.
Technical Analysis & Problem Solving
o Conduct data analysis using SQL and other tools to support requirement definition, defect investigations, and root cause analysis.
o Collaborate with technical leads/architects to understand backend impacts, integration considerations, and system constraints.
o Support troubleshooting post-release defects or operational issues, ensuring timely resolution.
Platform & Domain Expertise
o Become a subject matter expert on EXL's Premium Audit systems, workflows, and user roles (auditors, reviewers, client partners).
o Develop a strong understanding of how our AI-enabled document and data validation capabilities operate within the platform.
o Contribute to process improvements, documentation updates, and best practices within the BA community at EXL.
Qualifications
Qualifications and experience we consider to be essential for the role:
• 8+ years of experience as a Business Analyst with progressively increasing responsibilities.
• 3+ years working in Agile Scrum environments.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and drive clarity in complex problem spaces.
• Strong communication skills—capable of interacting with technical and non-technical stakeholders, writing clear documentation, and presenting to business audiences.
• Ability to rapidly learn new technologies, systems, and domain concepts in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and structured problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with SQL for data validation and investigation.
• Excellent time-management and organizational abilities; able to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously.
• Collaborative mindset and a commitment to transparency and continuous improvement.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills and Personal attributes we would like to have:
• Experience in Property & Casualty Insurance, especially Premium Audit, Underwriting, or Subrogation.
• Experience working with AI-assisted document workflows, rule engines, or validation tools.
• Exposure to complex form frameworks such as or similar schema-driven UI technologies.
• Experience supporting SaaS platforms, multi-team environments, or global development teams.
