Varian Proton Therapy Field Service Engineers provide highly visible customer support with a site‑dedicated team and are responsible for the overall on‑site operation, maintenance and performance of the Proton Therapy System.This is an on‑site position located in Voorhees, NJ.
Varian Proton Therapy Systems Utilize The Following Subsystems
High Vacuum
Cryogenics and Superconducting Magnets
High Voltage applications, AC and DC
RF Power Delivery System
X‑ray with Computed Tomography
Industrial Robots and Motion Control
Industrial PLC Controls
Radiation Dosimetry
Responsibilities For This Position Include
Maintain a high degree of professional knowledge and safety consciousness in accordance with VMS guidelines.
Provide highly visible customer support, assisting customers in the operation of the system.
Act as the company liaison with the customer on technical and administrative matters.
Perform all operational quality checks, including planned maintenance, in a timely manner.
Provide accurate, detailed and concise field service reports.
Complete required assignments, Service Technical Bulletins and Upgrades in a timely manner.
Complete mandatory training assignments and certifications on time to maintain FDA compliance.
Become proficient in internal software applications: Microsoft Office Suite, SAP, Salesforce, Siemens PLC GUI, and Varian Treatment Control.
Support other field service site roles such as Site Safety Coordinator, Spare Parts Inventory Controller or Radiation Safety Coordinator.
Meet all Vendor Credentialing requirements necessary to gain VMS client site access, unless prohibited by law.
Shift Schedule and Travel
Available to work one of the following shift types at the assigned location:
1st, 2nd or 3rd shift, 8 hrs per day
Compressed Work Schedule, 10 or 12 hrs per day or night, 3 or 4 days/nights per week
Rotating weekends
Up to 30 % travel may be required.
Minimum Required Skills And Knowledge
Associate’s degree in an Engineering Technologies field OR 2 years of applicable experience in a military or high‑tech industry.
Ability to work occasionally at heights above 20 ft or in cramped spaces.
Fluency in English (written and spoken).
Customer‑focused attitude.
Ability to troubleshoot using technical drawings and root‑cause methodologies.
Intermediate knowledge of the following tooling:
Mechanical: torque wrenches, precision gauges & levels, vernier scales, calipers, micrometers, drills, saws, taps and dies, lubrication and adhesives.
Electrical: digital multimeter, oscilloscopes, circuit/component tooling, soldering.
Other Desired Skills And Knowledge
Fluency in German (written and spoken).
Fundamental knowledge of computer and network systems.
Previous experience in a high‑tech or military technical support role.
Vendor Credentialing Requirements
Proof of valid identification (photo, driver’s license, SSN).
Criminal background checks.
Drug screens.
Immunizations (COVID‑19, Hep B, MMR, Varicella, Influenza, Tetanus).
Annual TB testing.
Healthcare training.
Pay
The Base Pay Range for this position is $64,060 – $88,088 per year. Factors that may affect starting pay include geography, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications.
