Summary:
Reporting to the Finance Director Municipal (FDM), the Financial Controller, Municipal Ireland (FCMI) will have full financial input into the Municipal business (Ireland). The FCMI will be a key member of the management structure and will be responsible for the timely and accurate reporting of every aspect of Glanua Municipal Ireland's financial performance.
In particular, the FCMI together with the FDM, will be charged with reporting the Municipal Divisions' top and bottom-line financial targets. This will include rigorously evaluating and prioritising the company's commercial opportunities, supporting the building of clear, robust, and achievable strategic and operating plans, and contributing as part of a first-class management team to execute efficiently against them.
People leadership is a key component of this role. The FCMI will continue to ensure that Glanua becomes more performance and impact focused, whilst retaining its commitment to delivering key projects for its customers.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Lead, coach, and develop a capable finance team, delegating effectively and supporting succession planning by building a culture of ownership, problem-solving, and proactive communication across the team.
2. Support the profitable business growth agenda of the Glanua Ireland Municipal business, in partnership with the FDM and the Municipal Operations Director.
3. Support the FDM in maintaining a detailed operating model of the Municipal business and business units which will connect key operational metrics of the business such as sales growth, project profitability, capital investment appraisal and new project strategies etc. with P&L items to enable the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and their teams to understand and optimise the business towards profitable growth.
4. Support the FDM in creating and maintaining trading models / forecasts of the business to enable the SLT to accurately predict quarterly and full year results based on current trading performance.
5. Providing business partnering support and challenge to the commercial and operational teams, ensuring business process are applied consistently while also acting as a trusted advisor on project performance, cost control, and commercial decision-making.
6. Participate in driving all aspects of the divisional cost management by ensuring overheads and operating costs are monitored, reviewed, and challenged monthly. This will include working collaboratively with our Procurement team to identify opportunities to reduce costs and introduce efficiencies.
7. Support the FDM in setting detailed budgets and reforecasts for the Municipal Division and ensuring full Municipal Ireland team participation and business alignment.
8. Manage all aspects of the Municipal Ireland Division cash flow management, including treasury management, working capital management and other actions to maximise balance sheet efficiency through working with the FDM, Operations and Group Finance.
9. Delivering accurate, timely and relevant monthly management accounts to meet all local and Glanua Group time limits. This will include the preparation and review of balance sheet reconciliations, with clear accountability and escalation protocols. Lead monthly performance reviews with business stakeholders, translating financial data into actionable insight.
10. Lead process and system improvements through SAP optimisation by identifying opportunities to improve automation, reduce manual work, and increase data reliability. Contribute to the development and implementation of Finance SOPs, onboarding documents, and process maps.
11. For all legal entities within the Municipal Ireland Divisional structure manage all corporate tax obligations (with support from our tax advisers); ensure that there is a process in place so that each relevant legal entity meets all its tax obligations in the areas of VAT, RCT, Intrastat/VIES and Payroll Taxes etc.
12. For all legal entities within the Municipal Ireland Divisional structure manage compliance to all applicable audit and governance matters.
13. Collaborate with the FDM to lead the company's capital investment strategy.
14. Specific responsibilities will include delivering annual statutory financial reporting in line with required timescales and applicable accounting standards; and managing external relationships with auditors, and other professional advisors.
Qualifications & Candidate Requirements:
1. Degree/master's in business/accounting.
2. Qualified Accountant with 8+ years post qualification experience preferably in a similar role with a solid commercial and strategic record.
3. Prior Financial Controller experience working in a Commercial Contracting environment is essential, and experience within the utilities sector would be desirable.
4. Prior experience within Project Contracting industry sectors would be a distinct advantage.
5. Prior team management experience is a requirement, with an elevated level of people skills and an ability to work cohesively with management teams.
6. A personal ability to bring structure, consistency, and calm to a busy and sometimes reactive environment while also holding high standards of accuracy and ownership.
7. Prior experience with SAP(S4/Hana) would be desirable.
8. Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with multiple stakeholders
9. Prior experience operating with members of a senior leadership team as a strategic business partner not just as a support function controller.
10. Ability to represent the Company at an elevated level externally.
11. Flexibility to work independently when required and adapt to a fast changing, dynamic environment in a purposeful manner.
12. Occasional travel within Ireland as and when required will be a requirement of the role.
13. The role will be an office-based role in our Loughrea offices.
