We operate the Single Electricity Market (SEM) which is the wholesale electricity market on the Island of Ireland, and we own and operate the East West Interconnector, a high voltage link between Ireland and Great Britain.

The Market Settlements team within SEMO (Single Electricity Market Operator) manage the financial settlements of the balancing market, credit risk management and clearing activities for the market, and the query management processes in line with the relevant market codes.
The Role The Controller plays a key role in supporting the full range of work within the Market Settlements team including working closely with our data providers to verify and process the data inputs from the various wholesale market interfaces.
Each of the settlements business areas have specific obligations that need to be completed to ensure the relevant Trading & Settlement code timelines are met.
Deadlines can be daily, weekly, monthly and as a result the team work closely together to ensure the timely processing of financial information and publishing of key data within pre-determined deadlines to ensure the smooth operation of the electricity market.
The Controller follows processes to accurately execute the assigned activities within the required timelines and escalates complex issues to senior members of the team in a timely fashion, as necessary.
Key responsibilities: Follow business processes and procedures working within defined guidelines to ensure the financial settlement of the electricity market for market participants Perform routine checks of financial information using prepopulated checklists ensuring financial data is correct Produce weekly financial settlement documents to calculate whether a market participant is either owed money, or is due to pay SEMO that week for imbalances from the system Generate daily settlements reports, daily credit risk management reports, daily and weekly clearing tasks Upload settlement documents on the website for Market Participants and ensure daily and weekly publication timelines are met Conduct cashflow checks using excel and prepare the file for analysis by the Analyst team Review financial data before final checks and approval by senior team members Operate various system applications to track and monitor the system files at each critical point during the financial settlements process Escalate complex issues that occur on the system to the Analyst or senior team members to resolve Respond to queries from internal and external stakeholders Publish market messages and share key updates to market participants Actively build knowledge and experience of business processes within the team and ensure compliance with procedures and relevant financial settlement codes Support ongoing business changes and improvements, including process improvement, training activities and system testing.
What Youll Need Joining SONI as a Controller Market Settlement, youll need: Essential: Typically, 1 - 2 years experience in a financial administrative role/role processing information Strong attention to detail Comfortable working in a highly process driven role Effective time management to achieve strict deadlines Ability to communicate effectively in a business environment and escalate issues to senior team members.
Ability to work effectively within a team environment with a flexible approach Ability to learn and operate various systems Working experience of MS Office, in particular MS Excel.
Desirable: 2 years post graduate experience, preferably in a financial role.
Third level qualification in a relevant discipline particularly in banking or finance.
