Reporting To
The post holder reports to the Crosscare Counselling Service Manager or nominated Deputy.
Role Summary
The post holder will engage in therapeutic relationships with clients aged 12 to 25 affected by addiction and work with the clinical team to provide person‑centred care.
General Responsibilities
* Provide individual counselling to persons 12 to 25 years of age.
* Manage a caseload across a range of programmes under the supervision of the line manager.
* Understand and prioritise Service User needs, taking account of the influence of family, mental health, peer group, gender, culture and sexuality on beliefs and behaviours.
* Conduct comprehensive assessment of the presenting issues of the client and concerned persons where appropriate.
* Facilitate therapeutic groups.
* Develop and maintain clinical partnerships with professionals working in same or other treatment modalities and settings.
* Notify child protection concerns in accordance with “Children First” Guidelines in consultation with Crosscare Designated Liaison Person.
* Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness and outcomes of treatment for individuals/groups, matching therapy to needs.
* Discharge and onward referral when appropriate.
* Refer clients to self‑help groups and community initiatives.
* Demonstrate flexibility in practice as required (e.g., out of hours, provision of new programs and service initiatives).
Minimum Qualifications
* Professional Qualification in Counselling/Psychotherapy of at least 2 years Diploma Standard.
* Accreditation with a relevant Professional Body (ACI, IACAC, IACP, IHIP or equivalent).
* Minimum of two years’ experience of managing a caseload under supervision, after achieving professional qualification.
Personal Skills & Attributes
* Demonstrated competence in providing therapy to Service Users under and over 18 years using person‑centred and cognitive‑behavioural approaches.
* Up‑to‑date clinical knowledge of assessment and treatments.
* Commitment to ongoing evaluation of supervision and clinical practice for quality service.
* Knowledge of child protection notification procedures and other ethical considerations.
* Ability to engage in health promotion and education work.
* Commitment to continuing professional development and effective use of supervision.
* Ability to work both as part of a multidisciplinary team and independently, under supervision.
* Access to own transport.
* Flexible attitude to working evenings if requested.
