Overview
The WiSAR Lab and Technology Gateway is an innovative research centre focused on the research and development of wireless systems including Io, Body Worn Devices, wearable antenna design and embedded systems.
The WiSAR Lab is seeking to recruit a highly motivated Research Engineer to undertake research and design work in the development e-health technologies in particular the implementation of wearable health monitoring technologies and wearable devices for deployment in body area networks.
The successful candidate will primarily be working on two funded European projects in the area of wearable health technology. However, they will be expected to contribute to other ongoing research projects as required. Both of these projects have international consortia, and there will be a requirement to attend and present at meetings and conferences in partner countries.
The successful candidate will join an exciting research effort focused on the new technologies and sciences required in the development and emergence of wearable health technology. The successful applicant will join an experienced and growing team who have been delivering innovative wireless solutions to industry for over 15 years.
Key duties and responsibilities
* To assume a role in the design as well as the execution of research projects, ensuring deliverables including pilots are delivered on time.
* To conduct and lead a specified programme of research under the supervision and direction of the Director and PIs.
* To engage with industry to develop collaborative research projects.
* To win competitive research funding at a national and EU level under the direction of the Director or PIs
* Cost estimation of industry research grant proposals and industry direct funded projects.
* To engage in the dissemination of the results of the research through publication of quality peer reviewed journals and conferences.
* To interact closely with postgraduate research students and have an agreed role in supporting these students in their day- to-day research in conjunction with the supervisor or supervision team
* To conduct administrative and management work associated with the research project
* To engage in costing research grant proposal and financial management of projects.
* Participate in preparation of appropriate project documentation and design reviews to ensure accuracy and adherence to technical requirements.
* Assume responsibility for completing individual project milestones and maintaining schedule, once tasks are assigned.
* Provide technical and schedule estimates for individual design responsibilities on assigned project.

Essential Qualifications and Skills
* Applicants should have a minimum 2.2 Honours degree in Electronic engineering, Computer science or in a related discipline.
* It is essential that the candidate has at least three years post- graduate experience in research or industry.
* Data Science, data analysis and modelling experience.
* Good at interacting with people, communicating, and working as part of an international team.
* Self‑organised, able to conduct independent learning.
* Presentation skills (evidence of participation in conferences and events).
Desirable Qualifications and Skills
* It is desirable that the candidate has a Masters or PhD in electronic engineering, computer science or equivalent.
* Fluent in Python and Python Libraries: Scikit‑learn, Keras, Pandas, Seaborn, Numpy, Matplotlib.
* Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) package.
* Experience of working in a research environment.
* Experience of writing funding proposals.
* Previous publications.
* Experience applying for ethical approval, conducting research: recruiting and running trials/studies.
* Ability to work to deadlines.
* Experience with wearable electronics, electronic devices, wearable technology and managing wearable data.
* Familiar with digital/tech competences for health and social care professionals.
* Experienced in preparing papers, reports and presentations.

39 hours per week
