Reports to
Clinical specialist radiation therapist/lead clinical specialist/operations manager
Responsibilities
1. Maintain an atmosphere of caring, concern, and support for patients of all ages, visitors, medical staff, and co-workers.
2. Deliver radiation treatment according to the written prescription and treatment plan, ensuring safety and adherence to departmental procedures. Report any deviations to the clinical specialist, lead therapist, and physicist.
3. Ensure quality treatment delivery through complete and accurate documentation of treatment records.
4. Maintain treatment portal placement accuracy by taking and reviewing electronic portal images, adjusting treatment fields as needed.
5. Explain treatment procedures to patients and/or families, referring medical questions to appropriate personnel.
6. Under the supervision of a radiation oncologist, take localisation radiographs and administer contrast agents during treatment localization.
7. Assist in the orientation and supervision of students during clinical rotations and support the evaluation of their performance.
8. Assist with all treatment-related procedures and at other UPMC locations as necessary.
9. Use effective communication and interpersonal skills to explain treatment procedures, respond to patient concerns, and reinforce education on side effect management.
10. Perform and document daily and weekly quality assurance activities for assigned equipment, reporting any findings outside normal ranges.
11. Participate in departmental quality improvement programs and attend multidisciplinary team meetings.
12. Complete daily treatment schedules, maintaining accurate records, including billing information and codes.
13. Maintain a safe and orderly treatment environment.
14. Engage in Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
Essential Skills
* Completion of a formal radiation therapy technology program approved in Ireland, the EU, or by the AMA.
* CORU registration.
