Job Title: Senior Mortgage Officer - Lending Expert
About the Role:
* To support the Credit Union in launching a mortgage product and assessing member applications for mortgages and personal loans.
* To assess member applications in accordance with lending policy and procedures, practicing responsible lending and working closely with the Credit Union Management Team.
* To communicate effectively with members regarding their mortgage and loan applications, maintaining up-to-date market knowledge and information on the mortgage market and mortgage-related products.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Mortgage Assessment: Assess member mortgage and loan applications in accordance with lending policy and procedures, operating strictly within specified limits of authority, practicing responsible lending in accordance with the credit union ethos, and working closely with the Credit Union Management Team.
2. Member Support: Support members through their mortgage journey from initial query to completion and mortgage issue, communicating effectively with and assisting members regarding their mortgage and loan applications in person, by telephone, and by various online/electronic means in line with the ethos of the Credit Union.
3. Market Knowledge: Maintain up-to-date market knowledge and information on the mortgage market and mortgage-related products, leading by example in the delivery of the Credit Union's principles and values with a particular focus on superior member experience.
4. Process Improvement: Contribute to an excellent member experience by providing member excellence together with an efficient loans service to members, developing local market awareness in conjunction with the Head of Lending/Business Development Officer, establishing relationships with local businesses and community organizations, and assisting in developing lending policy, lending strategy, and loan product development.
5. Training and Development: Provide training, coaching, and guidance to the wider credit union staff team, contributing to loan underwriting and decision-making, particularly in relation to more complex loan applications, supporting the activities of the credit committee, which will involve attendance at credit committee meetings and producing reports as required.
The Person We Are Looking For:
* A progressive, solution-focused & flexible individual with a proven track record of working on own initiative.
* Minimum 5 years previous lending experience, with previous experience in Mortgage & SME lending essential.
* A relevant financial services lending qualification, such as APA loans and/or QFA (or equivalent).
* Excellent interpersonal, communication & member engagement skills, and a clear understanding of what great member experience is & how it is delivered.
* Strong knowledge of financial & other appropriate regulations.
* Attention to detail to ensure that the Credit Union meets its responsibilities as a regulated entity & gets it right first time for the member.
* Strong people skills, with the ability to coach, mentor and guide the development of colleagues within the lending team, and to work effectively with other team members.
