Medical Science Liaison - Mid-Atlantic
What is the role?
A Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is the field-based scientific expert on the assigned therapy and disease area, providing non-promotional medical support externally to ensure the safe and effective use of Aerogen's devices.
The role is largely field-based with up to 60% national and international travel, reporting directly to the Senior Global Medical Affairs Manager and responsible for the Mid-Atlantic territory.
Key Responsibilities
Interact with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), providing balanced information on product benefits, risks, therapeutic options, and disease states.
Identify and develop KOL relationships, fostering professional collaborations.
Gather feedback from KOLs and communicate relevant insights to internal stakeholders in a timely manner.
Facilitate the initiation, development, and ongoing maintenance of centres of excellence and programs to cultivate speakers from these centres.
Connect opinion leaders nationally or internationally as advisors, investigators, expert guest speakers, business development partners, and support the adoption of Aerogen's products into acute-care guidelines.
Collect and interpret medical insights from scientific exchanges with opinion leaders and report them to internal stakeholders to inform medical strategies.
Serve as conduit for unsolicited, investigator-initiated research proposals, facilitate proposals, advise on application guidance, and liaise with senior management for study publication.
Manage Aerogen's clinical trials in specified territories.
Collaborate with the commercial function to provide marketing and sales with the clinical and scientific data needed to grow Aerogen's market share.
Attend scientific meetings and symposia, provide timely synopses of presented information to internal colleagues, gather competitive intelligence, and report back to Aerogen.
Provide scientific information and education support: discuss disease state or product information via peer-to-peer interactions, answer questions on off-label use, recommend, recruit and train speaker-bureau participants, and support speakers and faculty.
Conduct medical educational training for internal partners.
Provide scientific support to commercial and Medical Affairs partners, including training, medical writing, education and related projects.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams and initiatives across Clinical, Marketing, Sales, and Training departments.
Education and Experience
Life Sciences degree, PhD, MD or PharmD with a medical or clinical focus.
Clinical experience with aerosol therapy, critical care, and/or respiratory care.
Key Skills
Presentations at scientific meetings and to HCPs.
Recruitment and negotiation of clinical trial sites and KOL experts.
Proficient computer skills, experienced with Microsoft Office for document, spreadsheet, and project plan creation.
International and domestic travel up to 60% of time, with applicants residing within the specified region.
Capacity to manage shifting priorities, handle long hours when required, and manage multiple projects with tight deadlines.
Comfortable working in office, science labs, and hospital clinical environments.
