Automation Project Engineer
Location: Sligo, Ireland (Onsite)

Role Overview:
A leading engineering services provider is seeking an experienced Automation Project Engineer to join a manufacturing support team in Sligo. This role involves providing hands-on technical support and project management for control systems within a regulated manufacturing environment, particularly around new product introductions and system integration projects.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead qualification activities for control systems during project start-up phases.
* Collaborate with IT teams to deliver successful integration of new automation systems.
* Manage control system aspects of capital and continuous improvement projects.
* Work cross-functionally with engineering and manufacturing teams to implement solutions.
* Drive future integration plans across MES, ERP, and data historian platforms (e.g., OSI PI).
* Oversee lifecycle management and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
* Troubleshoot control system issues, optimise performance, and maintain documentation.
* Ensure all engineering activities align with environmental, health, and safety standards.
* Engage with external vendors to support system qualification and documentation processes.
Required Experience & Skills:
* Minimum 3 years' experience in an automation engineering role within a regulated manufacturing environment (e.g., pharmaceutical, biotech, life sciences, or medical devices).
* Hands-on experience with PLC, HMI, or SCADA platforms in GMP-compliant settings.
* Strong understanding of 21 CFR Part 11 and other regulatory frameworks related to automated systems.
* Track record of involvement in plant start-ups or NPI projects, particularly in start-up environments.
* Familiarity with qualification protocols and documentation for control systems.
* Experience with audits or inspections is a plus.
Candidate Profile:
* Bachelor’s degree in Automation, Mechatronics, Electrical, or a related discipline.
* Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills across departments and disciplines.
* Candidates must be based in Ireland or willing and able to relocate within a reasonable timeframe.
