It has evolved from a single function agency managing the National Debt to a manager of a complex portfolio of public assets and liabilities. Businesses managed by the NTMA include borrowing for the Exchequer and the management of the National Debt, the State Claims Agency, the New Economy and Recovery Authority ("NewERA"), the Ireland Strategic Investment Fund, National Development Finance Agency and the NTMA Future Ireland Funds business unit with responsibility for the management of the Future Ireland Fund and Infrastructure, Climate and Nature Fund. The NTMA also assigns staff to the National Asset Management Agency, the Strategic Banking Corporation of Ireland (SBCI) and Home Building Finance Ireland (HBFI). Future Ireland Funds The NTMA manages both the Future Ireland Fund (FIF) which aims to ensure steady and long-term support for state expenditure from 2041, and the Infrastructure, Climate and Nature Fund (ICNF) which is designed to bolster state spending in response to economic downturns or to fund environmental initiatives between 2026 and 2030. The Funds were established in 2024 and currently have over €13 billion of assets and are expected to continue to grow over the coming years. The FIF is now recruiting a Deputy Director - Head of Private Investments to report to the Director of the FIF. This is an unique opportunity to join a new and growing team to deliver this significant new mandate by overseeing the development and implementation of investment strategies across Real Assets, Private Equity and Private Debt. Role Summary Therole of Deputy Director - Head of Private Investments will provide a unique opportunity for an experienced and motivated individual to join the Future Ireland Funds team tasked with the delivery of the Future Ireland Funds' mandates. This role will focus on the private assets within the funds but involvement across all asset classes will be required. The successful candidate will be a member of FIF leadership team, developing and delivering on the investment mandates of both funds. As the funds are in the early stage of establishment there will be ample opportunity to shape and evolve the investment strategies for the funds and have a meaningful impact on the trajectory of these new sovereign wealth funds. All members of the Future Ireland Funds team are required to remain flexible to respond to the dynamic nature of the mandate - this may require team members to apply their skills outside of their core areas of responsibility, from time to time. The position of Deputy Director - Head of Private Investments is a key investment leadership position for the Unit. The principal responsibilities and key elements of the role will include: Investment Strategy Development & Manager Selection: Responsibility for the development of strategies to gain access to each private market asset class, potentially including real assets, infrastructure, private equity, private credit and others. Responsibility for the recommendation and ongoing oversight of external investment managers, funds, General Partners and strategic partners to aid with the implementation of the funds' strategies. Membership of FIF Asset Allocation Committee, leading, challenging and collaborating on the evolution of the fund's total portfolio. Engagement and collaboration with stakeholders including FIF Investment Committee, Agency Board and broader NTMA team at stages of strategy development and implementation. Formation and development of a diverse and high performing Investment team. Work with broader FIF and NTMA team to develop an appropriate process to integrate risks arising from ESG matters into the investment process. General FIF Management: A key member of the FIF Management team working on growing the unit and developing the team and investment process and procedures. Lead and inspire team to deliver team and individual goals and objectives and facilitate them in developing to their full potential. NTMA Liaising: Working collaboratively with colleagues, partners and stakeholders, promoting a culture of high performance and continuous improvement. Communication: Communicating effectively with stakeholders, including internal committees, external investment managers, market counterparts, other NTMA departments and governance fora. Representation of FIF with external parties as/when required. Knowledge and Experience The ideal candidate will have: Significant (>15 years) senior experience leading business activities in an investment/fund management / financial institute or equivalent environment. A proven track record in deriving private market investment strategies and implementing those strategies. Extensive people management experience, managing senior, investment professionals in a cohesive manner aligned with the culture of the FIF and the NTMA. Experience in strategy development and implementation combined with stakeholder communication and management. Have a relevant third level qualification in investment/business/finance or other relevant discipline, and/or equivalent professional qualification, e.g. CFA. Broad experience in one of more of the following financial sectors: investment management, banking, private equity, corporate lending, corporate finance. Experience in establishing a new entity / building an investment team/ forming processes and procedures within a larger organisation. Willingness to engage in a whole of fund approach to the management of both funds. Ideal Skills The ideal candidate will have: An open mindset: the FIF unit is newly established and in the early stages of development. Team members need to be adaptable and eager to refocus and help colleagues as and when priorities arise. Industry experience: Senior management private market experience in an investment leadership role in a sovereign wealth fund, investment fund, pension fund, institutional asset owner, or global equity investment firm. Leadership: Significant executive leadership experience, operating at comparable level with recognised leadership and management skills. Proven stakeholder management skills with an ability to interact with relevant NTMA stakeholders at a senior level, in a professional manner. Apparent track record of engaging a broad base of stakeholders. Technical expertise: Strong investment management track record, demonstrating a keen and well-informed interest in investment with a particular emphasis on private assets. Comfortable with evolving and changing priorities, with high level problem solving and financial analytical skills. Strong conceptual and strategic thinker with personal characteristics of integrity, discipline, curiosity, and commitment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills that command credibility and build trust at all levels.
