Youth Development Officer - Southwest Region (Permanent Full Time)
Location: Tuckey Street, Cork
Salary range: €39,****** per annum, paid monthly
SVP is a large, national voluntary organisation committed to working for social justice and providing a more just and caring society.
Through its network of volunteers and staff, SVP supports initiatives in housing, community care, shops, administration, and specialist areas.
Role
The Youth Development Officer will promote and support the SVP Youth Development Programme in the Southwest Region, especially through Young SVP Conferences in schools and third-level institutions.
The role seeks to raise awareness of SVP's work, build links with schools, and strengthen support for the organisation.
Key responsibilities include providing young people with opportunities to volunteer, fostering their personal and social development, and inspiring them about social justice.
Qualifications
3rd level qualification in Youth Work, Education or an equivalent area.
Training in group facilitation and learning with young people.
Experience
Minimum of 3 years' full-time post-qualified experience working with young people in group settings using active learning methodologies.
Team worker with the ability to prioritise tasks and work well under pressure.
Excellent IT skills, including knowledge of record-keeping and database systems.
Previous experience in statutory, voluntary, or community settings.
Knowledge
Knowledge of SVP, its mission, and values.
Awareness of the needs and issues of the poor and disadvantaged.
Understanding of social issues, policy, and services.
Skills
Excellent group facilitation skills.
Strong event management abilities.
Proficient public speaking and presentation skills.
Self-motivated, capable of working independently and contributing to a team.
Ability to set work plans with progress tracking aligned with objectives.
