Job Overview
Mott MacDonald has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our expanding Power Transmission and Distribution team in Ireland. The successful candidate will work on diverse industry‑leading projects, delivering innovative solutions for power transmission grid systems, ensuring security of electricity supply, integrating renewable energy sources and delivering large infrastructure plans from concept to delivery.
Responsibilities
* Primary plant layout for HV substations.
* Equipment specifications for HV plant and ancillary equipment.
* Providing engineering design input to major electric power infrastructure projects through all lifecycle stages from feasibility to commissioning.
* Coordination with client project teams and internal disciplines including civil, structural, environmental, survey/geotechnical, transport, protection & control and CAD/BIM.
* Delivering projects in new technologies such as energy storage, HVDC systems, smart grid solutions, waste to energy, etc.
* Providing professional services to UK and overseas clients.
Candidate Specification
* Qualified to degree level and ideally working towards Chartered Engineer status.
* Experience in the power transmission and distribution industry.
* Experience in designing, delivering and supervising HV substation solutions (110kV–400kV).
* Experience in developing specifications for HV AIS/GIS substations and associated equipment.
* Experience across all project lifecycle stages.
* Experience applying regulatory and client‑specific health & safety requirements to HV plant designs.
* Experience preparing technical reports in English.
Preferred (but not required)
* Design of overhead line systems for transmission networks.
* Design of HV cable systems (minimum 110kV).
* Construction and commissioning for HV plant systems.
* Earthing software design (CDEGs) and protection coordination software (ETAP).
* Control and protection systems design.
* Master’s degree.
