Overview of role:
UPMC Sports Surgery Clinic are currently recruiting a Clinical Nurse Manager (CNM) Haemavigilance.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
* Participating in future development of the Hemovigilance Service that supports the clinical needs of the patients and is consistent with the mission, vision, values and strategic plan of UPMC SSC.
* Promoting open communications/disclosure throughout the Hospital.
* Observing the strictest confidence when dealing with all aspects of patient or Hospital information.
* Participating in the hospital's Accreditation programme and the ethos of Continuous Quality Improvement.
* Participate in ongoing audits to measure compliance with recommendations for best practice from the British Society for Haematology.
* Attend meetings as required in UPMC SSC and as required in National Orthopaedic Hospital Cappagh (NOHC). Quality, Transfusion Committee, Annual Management Review, and others, as necessary. Develop and revise quality initiatives as indicated.
* Formulate Patient Information leaflets, as necessary.
* Developing, updating and reviewing policies, procedures and guidelines for the department and be an active participant in formulating and carrying out hospital policies and procedures.
* Ensuring that all policies and procedures identified by the hospital as being relevant to the post have been read, acknowledged, implemented and adhered to.
Clinical and Educational Role:
Support the Role out of Blood track system across the hospital ensuring compliance with all processes education and training and connectivity with REES system in Cappagh Hospital.
Reports suspected serious adverse reactions (SARs) /events (SAEs)/near miss events (NMs) of blood/blood products to the Consultant Haematologist and retain written and/or electronic records/reports of these.
Collect, co-ordinate and submit reports on transfusion related SAR/SAE/NMs to the National Hemovigilance Office (NHO) based on the NHO's reporting criteria.
To assist in Risk Management Assessments to ensure that transfusion reactions/incidents do not recur.
Provide data to reflect the department's activities as required.
With support from Cappagh Hospital help produce an annual report to be submitted to the Health Products Regulatory Authority.
Ensure 100% traceability of every blood/blood product issued to clinical areas from the Blood Transfusion Laboratory (BTL).
Assist the Medical Scientist/s, if necessary, with recall/look back of blood/blood products as requested by the IBTS.
Review and audit of all aspects of the blood transfusion.
Use audit tools to evaluate transfusion practices, conduct audits and disseminate results to relevant hospital personnel
Support nursing/medical staff in all aspects of transfusion where required.
Participate in Induction/Orientation programmes for nursing and NCHD staff .
Provide an Education and Advisory service (including presentations to all grades of staff involved in Transfusion) for transfusion practice and promote the appropriate use of blood/blood products.
Provide education and training relevant to staff involved in the transfusion process, and staff involved in the transportation of blood/blood products.
Develop and implement continuing education programmes for clinical staff based on best transfusion practice.
Educate patients requiring transfusion, if necessary, explaining the benefits and risks involved and provide them with a patient information leaflet, if necessary.
Participate in the formulation of quality objectives and improvements annually.
Develop and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues in the Blood Transfusion Laboratory in Cappagh and all relevant departments in UPMC SSC.
Liaise with the Blood Transfusion Quality Rep and the Quality Systems Manager in Cappagh to assist in maintaining an effective Quality Management System.
Maintaining throughout the Hospital an awareness of the primacy of the patient in relation to all hospital activities and maintain a clear understanding of the important of providing a quality and safe service to all patients.
Reporting concerns for the safety and welfare of patients.
Receiving and recording details concerning mishaps, complaints and defects in supplies and equipment, investigate the circumstances with appropriate team members and taking the necessary actions and report the findings as required.
Information Technology:
Ensuring that the Hemovigilance department makes the most effective and efficient use of information technology for both patient care and administrative support in a manner which integrates well with systems throughout the organisation.
Quality Assurance:
Ensure compliance with Directive 2002/98/EC (Standards of Quality and Safety for the Collection, Testing, Processing, Storage and Distribution of Human Blood and Blood Components) ; Directive 2005/61/EC (Traceability requirements and notification of serious adverse reactions and events).
Minimum Requirements for Blood Bank Compliance with Article 14 (Traceability) and Article 15 (Notification of Serious Adverse Reactions and Events) of EU Directive 2002/98/EC (AML-BB).
S.I. No. 360 of 2005 (European Communities (Quality and Safety of Human Blood and Blood Components) Regulations 2005)
National Transfusion Advisory Group (NTAG) Guidelines.
ISO 15189 (Medical laboratories - Requirements for quality and competence).
Qualifications & Experience:
Hold an up to date NMBI registration.
Have prior experience in Hemovigilance or proven experience in the transfusion of blood and blood components.
Possess the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability), for the proper discharge of duties of the post.
Candidates must have a high capacity for responsibility and individual initiative.
Be personally motivated with the ability to empower and motivate others.
Be able to demonstrate a patient focused approach.
Be computer literate. Have excellent interpersonal skills and proven written and verbal communication abilities.
Possess a good knowledge of quality improvement initiatives.
Have proven organisational skills.
Have the ability to work on own initiative, prioritise and manage a number of issues simultaneously and demonstrate attention to detail.
Be able to identify potential difficulties and formulate solutions.
