Corlann – West Region – temporary part‑time support workers (Care Assistant grade) – Ref: 98565 – CAISLEAN ADULT SERVICES (Oranmore & Galway City).
Description and Vision of Services
Corlann – West Region provides community‑based, person‑centred services for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. The vision is to support people to live a full and valued life in their community, creating opportunities for ordinary life experiences and close connections with family and friends, and supporting them to live a life of their choosing.
Location
Staff may be allocated to residential, respite, day settings or community services. Initially the appointee will work in one specific area but may change due to service needs.
The Role
Support workers provide assistance in all aspects of daily living, promoting independence and skill development. Responsibilities include facilitating participation in everyday life activities, personal care, meals, household tasks, and maintaining physical well‑being.
Reporting
Reports to Social Care Worker, Staff Nurse, Team Leader, or Team Manager, depending on location.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills
Good general education; recognised qualification in intellectual disability or FETAC Level 5 course an advantage; QQI Level 5 or higher desirable.
A full clean manual driving licence is essential; Class D1 licence may be required (assistance provided if not already held).
Experience with people with intellectual disability, autism or complex needs desirable; induction provided.
Flexibility, team‑working skills, patience, and sense of humour.
Fluency in verbal and written English; proficiency in IT skills.
Working Hours
X2 temporary part‑time = 39 hours per fortnight. Posts on a 14‑day duty roster. Duties may include integrated day service, weekend work, split hours, public holidays, evening/night duty, and sleep‑ins.
Annual Leave
22 days per annum (pro‑rata for part‑time), i.e. 8.46 hours per 100 hours worked.
Remuneration
Department of Health salary scale as at 01/02/2026: €34 534 x 11 increments – €47 152 per annum (pro‑rata for part‑time). Long Service Increment: €47 954 per annum (pro‑rata for part‑time) after 3 years on maximum of the scale. Additional payments for weekends, public holidays, sleep‑ins and night duty.
Tenure
Temporary part‑time posts available. All posts pensionable. Panel may lead to permanent, temporary or fixed‑term appointments within Caislean Adult Services over next 6‑12 months.
Probation
Nine‑month probationary period. Employment may be terminated during probation if unsuitable; period may be extended at employer’s discretion.
