What is the Grant?
The Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant is a payment you can get if you are turning a vacant house into:
* Your permanent home, or
You can get:
* Up to €50,000 for refurbishment costs
* An additional €20,000 if the property is derelict (structurally unsound and dangerous)
To qualify for the extra €20,000:
* You will need an independentstructural report with photosfrom a qualified professional
* Unlessthe property is already on theDerelict Sites Register— then no report is needed
How to Qualify?
To qualify for the grant, you must:
* Own the property or are in active negotiations to obtain ownership (You will to provide evidence)
* Plan to live in the property as your main home or rent it out once the refurbishment is complete
* Provide proof the property has been vacant for 2+ years
* Provide proof it was built in 2007 or earlier
* Proof that the property has been vacant for 2 or more years
* Evidence of Local Property Tax payment on the property or that the property is exempt from Local Property Tax
* Proof of ownership or proof of active negotiations to obtain ownership
* Quotation(s) for works proposed
* An independentstructural report (if applying for the derelict top-up) or proof the property is on the Derelict Sites Register
* Any additional documents your local authority requests

How Long Will It Take?
Cavan County Council continues to receivea high volume of applications for the Grant. Thestrong uptake of the scheme is welcome, and the team is working as quickly as possible to process applications.

Note: There is no current closing date right now.
The grant is part of the Government’s Housing for All plan to 2030.
From 1st December 2024, the grant will not cover standalone fossil fuel boilers in line with EU regulations (Energy Performance of Buildings Directive – EU/2024/1275).
