ProSource are recruiting a Plant Manager on behalf of their client who are a well renowned Building Contractor in Galway. The successful candidate will be responsible for the management, maintenance and operation of all plant, machinery and equipment used on sites in the Galway / West of Ireland region. This role ensures that plant assets are safe, compliant, cost-efficient, and effectively support project delivery timelines. Your main duties will include, but not be limited to; Oversee the entire plant fleet (earth-moving equipment, cranes, loaders, excavators, site-specific plant) including acquisition, deployment, maintenance, inspection, repair and disposal. Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules, ensuring plant downtime is minimised and reliability maximised. Ensure compliance with all legislative, health & safety, and environmental regulations relevant to plant operations, including equipment certification and operator licences. Work closely with Site Managers and Project Managers to plan plant requirements for upcoming projects, monitor utilisation rates and optimise equipment allocation. Monitor plant operating costs (fuel, maintenance, repair, hire) and drive cost efficiencies through optimisation, negotiation of service contracts and benchmarking. Manage plant hire and subcontract-plant relationships: review tenders, negotiate rates, ensure equipment delivery dates, and track return/hand-off conditions. Lead, develop and supervise the plant team (plant supervisors, operators, maintenance staff or subcontractors), including training, performance monitoring and continuous improvement initiatives. Maintain accurate records: plant asset register, maintenance records, inspection logs, breakdown reports, utilisation statistics, and report key metrics to senior management. Drive continuous improvement in plant operations: identify opportunities for modernisation (e.g., fuel-efficient machines, telematics, data tracking), ensure best-practice adoption and rollout across sites. To be successful in your application you will possess the following; Recognised technical qualification in Mechanical / Plant Engineering, Construction Equipment Management, or equivalent. 5-10+ years in plant/asset management within the construction or civil engineering sector. Proven track record of managing a large and diverse plant fleet (both owned and hired). Strong knowledge of plant maintenance best practices, compliance requirements (Irish/regional), inspection regimes and contractor management. Full clean drivers licence and availability to travel to/from sites in the Galway region and occasionally nationwide.
