About The RoleEnvironmental Sustainability Advisor - Civil EngineeringLOCATION:OxfordCONTRACT TYPE:PermanentBENEFITS:Pension, Subsidised Private Medical Cover, Life Assurance Scheme, Car AllowanceWe are seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Environmental Sustainability Advisor to support environmental and sustainability compliance and initiatives on our construction projects. This role plays a critical part in shaping responsible practices, monitoring performance, and driving continuous improvement aligned with corporate targets and regulatory requirements.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and maintain Construction Environmental Management Plans and associated documentationProvide proactive support and expert advice to operations teams on sustainability mattersCollect, analyse, and report environmental data including waste, fuel, and procurement metricsConduct regular compliance audits and support resolution of environmental incidentsLiaise with subcontractors to ensure alignment with environmental control standardsSupport applications for permits, licences, and exemptions, and manage de-registrationsAssist in site, regional and divisional performance reviews across sustainability domainsMonitor targets and recommend strategies for environmental improvementDevelop case studies showcasing sustainable best practices and innovationsIdentify and propose sustainable solutions for projects and industry-wide initiativesDesign and deliver environmental and climate awareness training sessionsCreate content for internal communications such as advice notes and sustainability reportsCoordinate and compile submissions for environmental and sustainability awardsContribute to PQQs, bids and tenders with sustainability inputSupport implementation of Carbon Management aligned with PAS 2080 accreditationAssist in evidence collation for BREEAM and / or other sustainability certificationsEssential CriteriaRelevant qualification in Environmental Science, Sustainability, or related fieldKnowledge of the construction or infrastructure sector, in an environmental roleStrong understanding of environmental regulations, permits, and complianceDemonstrable experience with environmental reporting and data analysisEffective communicator with ability to influence and engage diverse stakeholdersExperience delivering training and creating educational resourcesKnowledge of sustainability frameworks (e.g. PAS 2080, BREEAM)Desirable CriteriaChartered Environmentalist or working toward professional accreditationMinimum 3+ years relevant experience in a similar rolePrevious experience of working on Environment Agency and/or flood alleviation schemesExperience contributing to award submissions and innovation projectsFamiliarity with carbon assessment tools and lifecycle analysisExperience with digital platforms for sustainability reporting and collaborationAwareness of biodiversity, circular economy, and low-carbon procurement practices**This job description is intended to give the post holder an appreciation of the role envisaged for the Environmental Advisor and the range of duties to be undertaken.It does not attempt to detail every activity.
