The product engineering team designs and continuously innovates for products used within our rapidly expanding data center footprint. The team designs and develops resilient, cost-effective electrical distribution products and systems, with a focus on achieving world-class uptime and continuous improvements in reliability, scalability, and cost effectiveness. The role involves designing, innovating, and guiding products that customers rely on. The role may involve travel and collaboration with internal and external partners to support product design and deployment.Location: Dublin, Ireland. Travel up to 30% and international project work may be required. An understanding of international electrical product design requirements is helpful but not mandatory.ResponsibilitiesWork with internal partner teams to solicit customer input and define design requirements for product design.Lead new product design, development and qualification of critical electrical power distribution equipment for AWS datacenters including LV and MV switchgear, power distribution cabinets, and panels.Develop Capex and Opex spending budgets considering development costs with vendors, prototyping, testing, and specialized tooling requirements.Work with global suppliers and manufacturers to specify appropriate electrical equipment and components, ensuring tier 2-3 supply chain resiliency.Ensure compliance with UL, CSA, IEC and federal, state and municipal requirements and building codes across different countries through appropriate levels of testing.Validate design through prototype, pre-production and first-of-kind builds, conducting DFx and value engineering analyses and updating design and documentation.Collaborate with field engineering and commissioning teams to test and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical products.Provide support for manufacturing activities for new products on concurrent projects in multiple locations.Be a leader within the product development team and with internal and external teams that support the data center.About the teamAWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support flexible career paths and believe diverse perspectives strengthen our teams.QualificationsBasic Qualifications8+ years leading new product design, development, product certification, and manufacturing support of Low Voltage (LV) distribution products, focusing on switchgear, switchboards, and panelboards.Ability to interpret electric codes such as NEC, NFPA, UL891, UL508, UL1066, UL1558, ANSI C37, and other IEC codes.Demonstrated track record of design documentation creation including 3D models, submittals, assembly and part drawings, and ingestion into product lifecycle tools.Experience validating design through prototype, pre-production, and first-of-kind builds, including DFx and value engineering analyses with design updates.Preferred QualificationsExperience performing complex business case analysis to justify technical decisions and presenting the justification to management.Experience with product-level validation testing (Thermal, EMC/EMI, Shock, Cycle Testing, etc.).Knowledge of data center infrastructure design, operations, or delivery.Experience taking new design concepts from exploration through deployment or mass production.Demonstrated indirect leadership skills of junior engineers through successful new product launches.Amazon is an equal opportunities employer.
