The Generation Engineering department in ESB Engineering and Major Projects ( EMP ) is the centre of engineering for ESB’s generation businesses and provides consultancy services in generation technology for external and international clients .
We currently have an opportunity for a Senior Professional Engineer (Mechanical Overhauls ) within the Project s & Design Team in Generation Engineering. The successful candidate will support ESB with the management of overhaul projects on existing assets for ESB Generation & Trading (GT) .
ESB are currently recruiting for mechanical engineers to lead the technical delivery of plant overhauls across the ES B Generation portfolio. ESB EMP are seeking engineers with a background in construction, commissioning, maintenance, or operation of :
Gas Turbine Technology
H eat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSGs)
Steam Turbine Technology
Hydro electric Turbine Technology
Power Generation Balance of Plant Technologies
High Energy Piping Installation
The delivery of new g eneration projects such as the development of new build zero and low carbon generating assets, support existing assets within ESB’s plant portfolio and provide support for consultancy services f or International clients.
Key Responsibilities
Key responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to the following:
Support Overhaul Programme : Assist the overhaul project manager in safely and efficiently delivering the overhaul programme.
Contract Management : Manage the main mechanical contracts and other assigned work scopes.
Safety Compliance : Ensure all project works comply with statutory safety, health, and environmental regulations and ESB Technical Standards & Guidelines. Where required, c arry out authorized roles under the safety rules (Safe Systems of Work), training will be provided.
Inspection & Test Plans : Implement Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) for mechanical aspects in collaboration with the relevant internal Competent Persons and/or Asset Management Specialists.
Supervision & Quality Assurance : Supervise contractors' work daily, review ITP protocol sheets, and ensure work quality aligns with Project Quality Plan.
Audits & Reporting : Conduct regular safety, environment, and quality audits; report progress against schedule; attend project meetings.
Outage Planning & Execution : Plan and supervise engineering site works for outages and overhauls on main plant mechanical equipment.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Proven track record of significant experience in the power generation industry. A minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience is required .
The candidate will possess competence in design, construction, commissioning, maintenance or operation of mechanical systems in power generation or related process industry.
Strong interpersonal skills, ability to manage stakeholders, to work and share knowledge within a team structure and to make quality decisions and judgments
The candidate will possess p roject engineering and project management skills, strong time management and prioritisation skills
Strong communication, report writing skills and p roficient computer skills ( including MS Office )
Well versed with h ealth, s afety, construction and e nvironment s tandards and procedures, including risk assessment skills
Full clean driving license (B car licence)
Qualifications
Primary Degree in Mechanical Engineering (L evel 8 NFQ ) or equivalent relevant work experience.
Chartered Engineering status with a recognised engineering institution or demonstrable evidence of progress towards same is preferred.
Past experience working on a n electricity generating power plant .
Location
ESB Engineering and Major Projects office, Dublin or EMP Eastgate Cork. Due to the nature of the work most time will be spent on site for the preparation and delivery of overhaul works. F lexibility is important in this role as the role will include travel both nationally and internationally .
