The Master of Science (MSc) in Corporate Governance is a level 9 NFQ blended programme that is validated through QQI and provides graduates with recognition from the Chartered Governance Institute UK & Ireland. The Programme Director for the MSc in Corporate Governance will be responsible forall aspects of the management and ongoing development of the programme, forging and fostering strong links between the College, external stakeholders, and our regulatory and accrediting bodies.
Role
The Programme Director provides academic leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight for the MSc in Corporate Governance. The role ensures the programme is academically rigorous, professionally relevant, financially viable, and fully compliant with awarding body, regulatory, and quality assurance requirements.
The candidate will have a detailed understanding of corporate governance and one, if not multiple aspects of the underlying principles. The programme director will have experience in a broad range of governance environments, student learning opportunities and current student support systems. He or she should also have experience with teaching, learning and assessment processes within a higher education context.
Opportunities to work with the wider Hibernia College academic community include areas such as research and digital capabilities and working with the College Digital Learning Team in the ongoing development of the online nursing academic content.
Responsibilities
Programme Management
Chair Programme Boards and contribute to Academic Board, or its subcommittees, as required.
Assist the College President and Registrar in the management of Board of Examiners
Manage, and engage with, the external examiner(s) for the programme
Lead periodic programme review and revalidation processes.
Lead and manage the professional accreditation processes and the associated monitoring.
Academic
Lead the academic development, delivery, review, and enhancement of the MSc Corporate Governance.
Contribute to the teaching and assessment of a minimum of one module of the programme.
Oversee module design to ensure programme coherence, learner development, and appropriate assessment strategies.
Ensure assessment integrity, moderation, and standards are consistent and inline with awarding body expectations.
Monitor student performance, progression, retention, and completion metrics.
Requirements and Qualifications
Essential
Minimum of a level 9 NFQ qualification (or close to completion) in corporate governance, law, regulation, or a related discipline.
Demonstrable teaching experience at postgraduate level.
Experience of programme leadership or substantial module leadership.
Strong understanding of governance frameworks, board structures, risk management, compliance, and ESG.
Ability to engage effectively with senior professionals and industry stakeholders.
Desirable
Professional qualification (e.g., Chartered Secretary, compliance, risk, accounting, or legal qualification).
Industry experience in governance, regulation, financial services, or corporate advisory.
Experience in blended or online delivery.
Experience with quality assurance and validation processes in higher education.
