A leading insurance company is looking to hire a Chief Underwriting Officer.
In their function of CUO they will take ownership of defining the underwriting, reinsurance, actuarial, and risk strategies to recommend business plans that will generate continued profitable business growth in current and future markets while as CEO they will have oversight for the successful development of other functions vital to the success of the operation.
Responsibilities
* Develops underwriting guidelines within the framework of risk appetite, underwriting appetite, limits management and emerging risks
* Ensure consistency in underwriting strategy, standards and philosophy across all teams
* Use detailed monitoring standards and quality reviews to assess loss ratios and underwriting results
* Board director and PCF holder for CEO and potentially CUO positions, subject to regulatory approvals
Core competencies
* Strategic planning, business planning and overall management of the company.
* Negotiate with clients and brokers to build relationships and to develop new and renewal business
* Review and analyse business opportunities for risk exposure and compliance with underwriting guidelines
* Monitor company risk profile and assess new and different potential exposures and products under consideration
* Reviews contract and agreement wording and acts as a signatory
* Ensure team is aware of new regulations, participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organisations
