Job Description
This position involves a 39-hour work week, with an hourly rate of €16.12, based at our Mallow location (P51 T889). The job purpose is to enhance the quality of life of each resident by providing individualized holistic care, promoting independence, and communicating effectively with residents and the multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities
Deliver quality care to each resident.
Assist residents with intimate and personal care based on assessed needs.
Assist residents with eating and drinking where and when appropriate.
Promote and encourage a normal nutritional diet.
Assist residents with mobilizing.
Assist with diversional therapy (e.g., activities, movement, music).
Assist nursing staff with all resident care and care of the dying.
Be familiar with infection control.
Report changes in residents’ condition to the senior nurse on duty.
Ensure resident sleep patterns are not unduly disrupted by excessive noise and bright lights at night.
Document required records during duty.
Health & Safety
Close supervision day and night is vital for residents’ safety and well-being.
Be aware of and follow health and safety policies within Nazareth Care Ireland.
Report faulty equipment (e.g., lifting hoists, bath hoists) to the immediate supervisor.
Familiarize with transfer slide sheets, handling belts, and use hoists with a second staff member present.
Understand policies and procedures regarding evacuation and fire.
Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications
FETAC Level 5 and/or other relevant training.
Previous experience caring for the elderly, preferably in a residential setting.
Adopting a person-centred approach to care planning.
Experience working with others in a team setting.
Evidence of continuing professional development.
Effective communication at all levels.
Genuine interest in caring for older people.
Positive attitude and openness to changing needs within Nazareth Care Ireland.
Participation in care planning with nursing and other relevant staff.
Proficiency in manual handling and patient moving skills.
