Role Overview
The Lead Electrical Design Engineer will be responsible for delivering the full lifecycle of electrical design for complex pharmaceutical facility systems, including critical utilities, water systems, wastewater treatment, and process-related electrical infrastructure. This position provides technical leadership across multiple concurrent GMP projects, ensuring all electrical and instrumentation (E&I) design work is compliant, coordinated, cost-effective, and delivered to the highest engineering and safety standards.
The role involves leading design teams, performing and approving electrical engineering deliverables, coordinating with multidisciplinary groups, managing client interfaces, and supporting construction, commissioning, and qualification activities on site.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Project Leadership
* Lead the electrical design effort from concept through detailed design, construction, commissioning, and qualification.
* Coordinate closely with mechanical, process, automation, and CQV teams to ensure integrated, GMP-compliant design solutions.
* Manage project budgets, schedules, and resource allocations for electrical design packages.
* Present design updates, resolve technical issues, and represent the electrical discipline at client and project meetings.
* Maintain all drawings and documentation in BIM360 or site GMP-compliant document control systems.
* Prepare and issue scopes of work, specifications, and engineering deliverables for all electrical and instrumentation systems.
Electrical Systems & Utility Coordination
* Liaise with utility providers (e.g., ESB) and complete applicable submissions (NC3, load assessments, etc.).
* Lead and approve design reviews for LV distribution, MCCs, panel layouts, schematics, and protection systems.
* Support and witness Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) for MCCs, panels, and electrical assemblies.
Automation, Instrumentation & Control
* Specify automation hardware, approve I/O schedules, and validate network architecture drawings.
* Approve designs for motor starter systems (DOL, VSD), including functional requirements and commissioning support.
* Select and verify compliance of hazardous area equipment in accordance with ATEX/IECEx.
* Approve all instrumentation selection, device configuration, and support commissioning and troubleshooting.
* Review and approve control philosophies, Functional Design Specifications (FDS), and control narratives.
* Approve termination and loop drawings (CAD/Visio) ensuring adherence to site standards.
Cabling, Calculations & Drawings
* Develop cable schedules and perform cable sizing calculations using Amtech Single Calc and ProDesign.
* Produce and review 2D CAD electrical drawings, general services layouts, and containment systems.
* Work with BIM/draughting teams on 3D model coordination and clash detection.
Lighting, Fire & Life Safety Systems
* Ensure completion of compliant lighting and emergency lighting designs to IS EN 3217.
* Review and approve Fire Detection & Alarm System (FDAS) designs meeting IS EN 3218 and site fire safety requirements.
Construction, Commissioning & Site Support
* Provide technical guidance to contractors, site engineers, and commissioning teams during installation.
* Support Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and qualification activities (IQ/OQ) for GMP utilities and equipment.
* Troubleshoot electrical, instrumentation, and system start-up issues to ensure smooth handover.
* Ensure all work is executed safely, in compliance with GMP, electrical codes, and site health & safety procedures.

Pay: €35,000.00-€100,000.00 per year
