About Technical Operations
BioMarin’s Technical Operations group is responsible for creating medicines for clinical trials and scaling production for the commercial market. The team builds and maintains manufacturing processes and sites, provides quality assurance and quality control to meet regulatory standards, and procures goods and services to support manufacturing and the worldwide distribution of products to patients.
Position
Packaging Operations Team Lead - 12 Month Assignment
Closing date: 30th November 2025
BioMarin targets diseases with significant unmet medical need, including rare genetic diseases that affect children. The company aims to deliver first- or best-in-class therapies where no effective options exist.
Responsibilities
* People management of direct reports including development, coaching, appraisals, and performance management for packaging technicians and shift leads
* Lead and support the packaging team to ensure delivery of the production schedule
* Assist in troubleshooting and facilitate appropriate actions
* Provide close collaboration with Packaging BPS, Warehouse, Quality (QA & QC), Engineering, and other colleagues
* Represent the Packaging group at critical meetings (e.g., Daily Ops, S&O E, Functional Lead Team meetings)
* Report on key performance indicators (e.g., schedule adherence, changeover performance, unplanned downtime)
* Develop and demonstrate a proactive approach to safety, industrial hygiene, environmental and regulatory compliance
* Ensure training records and training plans are current for all team members
* Ensure master batch records, SOPs and other documents are current and compliant under cGMP
* Lead and support daily operation of processing systems; partner with plant engineering for reliable maintenance and calibration
* Partner with validation SMEs to prepare/approve validation protocols, plans, executions, and summary reports for ongoing validation efforts
* Promote Right First Time (Six Sigma) and lean manufacturing practices to drive operational excellence
* Coach, mentor and train shift leads and technicians on packaging processes and high-performance behaviors
* Assist in performance evaluations and coaching of staff
* Assist in recruitment and hiring for the Packaging operations team
* Support plant optimization and input into capital projects to strengthen the value proposition for future investment
* Collaborate with the Packaging project lead to support delivery of the Packaging strategic master plan
* Maintain visibility of packaging metrics and status, with emphasis on schedule adherence and changeover performance
Education
Education
Degree in science/engineering, operations management or industrial engineering or equivalent experience in a GMP environment is preferred.
Experience
* Demonstrated ability to influence team performance in a high-performance environment
* Experience embedding a strong Quality culture; Trackwise experience preferred
* Strong communication skills and ability to interact across cross-functional teams
* Proven ability to train and coach colleagues in processing, operational excellence, team interactions and delivering results
* Experience with regulatory inspections and interactions with regulatory inspectors
* Highly developed organizational and leadership skills
* Process development and/or technology transfer experience preferred
Contacts
Work closely with QA Operations, Packaging Development, Engineering, Material Operations & Packaging technicians & BPSs to support escalation resolution and implement effective CAPAs.
Supervisor Responsibility
The Packaging Operations Team Lead typically has 8–15 direct reports (packaging technicians and shift leads) and oversees a group of 8–15 staff across a two-shift operations pattern (early and late shifts, Monday to Friday). The role may require working shift operations to meet business needs.
