About the role
Overview
The laboratory will be responsible for managing and operating a geochemistry laboratory at NovaUCD in Dublin. The laboratory provides analytical capacity to a team of scientists engaged in enhanced weathering research.
This facility includes a custom autotitrator for automated analysis of pH, electrical conductivity and total alkalinity of aqueous samples, as well as an ion chromatograph for measurement of aqueous anions. Additionally, the laboratory features a range of soil and aqueous sample preparation equipment, including an oven, fridges, and a shaker.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out sample preparation and analyses for the science team
* Maintain and calibrate analytical equipment
* Order supplies and manage inventory
* Develop and maintain record keeping protocols suitable for a high sample throughput laboratory
* Train staff to operate equipment
* Maintain quality assurance and quality control across all analytical methods
* Write and update standard operating procedures and risk assessments
* Maintain laboratory health and safety standards
Required Skills and Qualifications
We are seeking a highly skilled professional with a strong background in geochemistry or a related field. The ideal candidate will have:
* A PhD in geochemistry or a related field, or a BSc/MSc with 2+ years of relevant experience
* Training and experience working in a wet and/or geochemical laboratory
* Adaptability and ability to work flexibly in a dynamic environment
* Experience with analytical equipment software, particularly chromatography software
