Summary of Post
We are delighted to invite applications for a full-time, Research Assistant position within Professor Sulaiman's Lung Microbiome Research Group.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute directly to pioneering early lung cancer translational research, working at the forefront of a rapidly advancing field.
Based in the RCSI Education and Research Building at Beaumont Hospital, the successful candidate will join a dynamic, supportive, and highly collaborative team committed to improving outcomes for patients with lung cancer.
We are looking for candidates with a genuine enthusiasm for clinical and translational cancer research, particularly those eager to develop their skills and grow within a vibrant research environment.
You will gain hands-on experience, work closely with multidisciplinary collaborators, and contribute meaningfully to impactful scientific studies.

Eligibility to Work in Ireland
Visa sponsorship is available for candidates who fully meet the essential criteria of the role.

Knowledge & Experience (Essential)
Knowledge in handling and processing patient samples.
Independent and pro-active.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively under tight deadlines.
Capacity for independent decision-making, proactive problem-solving, and taking initiative.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with fluency in English.
Proficiency in digital tools and platforms for communication, collaboration, and presentation (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom).
Experience developing and working with large datasets and databases.
Knowledge of statistical analysis tools (e.g., SPSS, R) and/or qualitative software (e.g., NVivo, MAXQDA) is desirable.
Previous experience and competence with molecular biology techniques (in particular DNA and RNA isolation).
Specific Requirements
A Bachelor of Science degree in relevant discipline.
Specifically, the duties of the post are
Co-ordinate and manage the collection of clinical samples, ensuring adherence to established protocols and ethical requirements.
Process and handle clinical samples to high laboratory standards, maintaining accuracy, quality, and reproducibility.
Record, curate, and manage clinical and translational data within large-scale dataset platforms, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely updates, and contribute to data quality assurance, governance compliance, routine dataset audits, and ongoing improvements to data capture workflows.
Maintain a well-organised and meticulously documented biobank of stored samples, including tracking, labelling, and inventory management.
Co-ordinate and organise webinar series and associated engagement activities, supporting knowledge exchange within the research community.
Deliver regular progress updates to the research group and, where appropriate, to external audiences to support dissemination and visibility of research outputs.
Prepare manuscripts, abstracts, and presentations, in consultation with supervisors, for submission to national and international journals and for presentation at major scientific conferences.
Collaborate effectively within an interdisciplinary research team, as well as with external partners, clinicians, and stakeholders across multiple projects.
Perform routine administrative and project-related tasks, supporting the PI and wider team to ensure timely and on-budget delivery of project milestones.
This may include organising project meetings and documentation, monitoring expenditure, and contributing to research risk assessments.
Undertake any additional responsibilities required to support the successful execution and delivery of ongoing research activities.
Support sample logistics, such as tracking sample shipments, logging sample receipts, and arranging courier collections where required.
