Role: Mechanical Commissioning Engineer - Power plant construction

Parker Stewart is working with a well-known construction and engineering organisation based in Westmeath to hire a Mechanical Commissioning Engineer for a significant power plant construction project estimated to last 9 months. There are potential future projects. The position is primarily onsite at the Athlone location.
* Lead the pre-commissioning and commissioning of mechanical systems including turbines, pumps, heat exchangers, and piping systems.
* Revise and coordinate mechanical testing, flushing, pressure/leak tests, and equipment startup procedures.
* Collaborate with QA/QC, vendors, and construction teams to ensure mechanical works are installed and tested according to specifications.
* Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues during commissioning and handover phases.
* Prepare and maintain detailed commissioning documentation, reports, checklists, and test records.
Experience Required:
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; or equivalent trade/technical qualifications with experience.
* Minimum 5 years’ experience in mechanical commissioning within power plants, energy, or industrial facilities.
* Strong knowledge of rotating equipment, piping systems, pressure vessels, and related standards (e.g., ASME, PED).
* Familiarity with commissioning procedures, safety protocols (e.g., LOTO), and industry codes.
* Excellent problem-solving, coordination, and documentation skills; ability to work in a cross-functional project team.
