Asset Engineers - Water / Wastewater Pumping Stations Location: North West (Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Cavan & surrounding counties) Sector: Water & Wastewater Infrastructure Role Overview As an Asset Engineer (Water / Wastewater), you will play a key role in the survey, assessment and reporting of assets at sewerage and water pumping stations across Ireland North West counties. The role is primarily focused on condition and performance surveys, supporting future maintenance and refurbishment. Site visits will be undertaken alongside contractor teams and Uisce Eireann Water Works Operators, who will operate equipment and provide site access. As part of a two person team, your responsibility will be to inspect, assess, record, and report on asset condition and performance of structural, mechanical and electrical assets. To date, 20 pumping station surveys have been completed, with a further 60 planned for 2026, forming part of a nationwide MEICA Asset Assessment Programme. Key Responsibilities Carry out asset surveys of sewerage and water pumping stations, focusing on structural and building, mechanical, electrical, and control systems As part of a team, you will inspect and assess pumps, motors, MCCs, VSDs, control panels, instrumentation, telemetry, and associated equipment Assess asset condition, maintainability, safety, and operational performance Work on site with contractors and Works Operators, who will provide operational support (pump operation, lifting, isolation, etc.) Accurately complete structured survey forms and asset condition records Produce clear, concise reports and recommendations, primarily working from home (up to 2 days per week) Input and manage asset data using online data collection systems, including Investment Planning and Maximo, training will be given. Collaborate with Asset Planning, IDD, and Operations teams to support asset intervention and capital planning Ensure all activities comply with health & safety requirements, industry standards, and company procedures Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Third level qualified or trade qualified in Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Automation disciplines OR civil engineering construction experience of Pumping Stations, foreman or similar. Minimum 5 years' experience in water, wastewater, utilities, industrial processing, or infrastructure environments Strong working knowledge of pumping stations and wastewater treatment plants Experience with MEICA equipment is highly sought after but not essential, including pumps, motors, MCCs, VSDs, PLC/SCADA systems, and instrumentation Experience working with contractors on the construction, commissioning, operation, or upgrade of pumping stations is highly desirable Strong observational, and reporting skills, IT skills can be supported by back-office engineering teams if required Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders Full clean driving licence (Class B) Multiple roles are available to support a long-term asset survey inspection programme on Water and Wastewater Pumping Stations. Experience in the construction of and or commissioning of Pumping Stations will be considered very relevant and beneficial. Work will be planned to facilitate a balance of 'work from home' and site visits. Site visits will be planned regionally; however, short stay-away assignments (1-2 nights) will be required given the geographical spread of the sites. Site attendance is expected a minimum of 2 days per week. Remote, working from home will be available to complete reporting and work planning up to 3 days per week.
